I believe it is more convenient for everyone: pilots and ATC. It's a short taxi to the fedex pad, and it keeps them out of the way of the faster jet traffic.

I had seen the FedEx Cessnas taking off from the Southern runway, but had never seen a landing.

According to Travel Portland, there are as many tourists coming to Portland from China as from Japan, about 50,000/year, and that was in 2014. They also show tourism to Portland from China growing at three times the rate as from Japan. A nonstop from China can't be far off (China Southern?) 100% of those passengers are having to connect (SEA, SFO, LAX)

The reopening of the expanded Portland Japanese Garden could significantly increase traffic to Portland from Japan this year. (Delta currently flying 226-seat 767 PDX-NRT.) If JAL wants to make its move on Delta at PDX, which is losing the Alaska tie-in, this might be a good time. I still think OneWorld, which is gaining the Alaska tie-in via AA, has plans for PDX.

Yeah, the "Empire" and "Amflight" guys/girls can just dump the airplane on RY3 and taxi off to the ramp much faster. Plus, ATC just needs to protect the RY intersections instead of needing to worry about RY separation and mixing the faster A/C with the props.

The props. land on the south RY frequently, especially when the visibility is low or RY3/21 hasn't been treated for contamination. There are a few other reasons but I'm not too sure I'm allowed to share.

I totally agree that OW and/or American have plans for Portland to compliment Alaska. I have an unverifiable hunch that OW/AA want's to make PDX a reliever to LAX for TPAC flights. Doubt it will happen, but it's fun to think about. Didn't AA move gates to the end of 'C'? There's wide body room down there right? I think the PoP should put customs on 'C' also.

Do you have a link to the TravelPortland info? Would be interesting to see.

I saw JFK coming that was a given, but the DTW flight is needed year round. DL could easily fill a A-320 or 738 a day, but even from their 2nd largest hub we have seasonal (at best) service. Good for AS keeping Portlanders on AS.

If I was a betting man, I'd say FLL is on the front burner from PDX, with some more connections from hubs in California to points East.

Alaska is doing some impressive growth this year. I assumed the SoCal adds would be the end for a while, but they just keep going! Hope to fly the new DTW route as soon as I can.

Not sure about an increase in frequency. I do know that the PDX-DTW route on DL will be operated with an A321 for the first time. I usually take the DL PDX-DTW flight at least 3-4 times/year and from my perspective I've never understood why the flight is not year-round.

The A330 from AMS was going to head to EUG if they didn't get in on first try on 10R. They got it down though.

PDX CC-E extension update:

Air Canada has moved to D2 and E5 is now closed...The area where the future extension will be is now barricaded off and you can now see how much physical area it will actually cover..................

Last year, Delta was operating a 763 JFK-PDX-JFK as well as ATL-PDX (one of which continued on to NRT and vice versa I believe).

Why was there such in increase in seats, especially to JFK, last year, but not this year?

I'm certain this route was daily M-F on the 763. It lasted for a couple of months. This year it looks like they have 757's on the route. Is DL using 763's on their mid day ATL flights this year?

Thus far I've noted the mid day DL ATL departure has been a mix of B757-200 and B757-300 series aircraft for DL. Looking ahead to mid June and early July it appears that the mid day ATL flight is mostly a B737-900ER. The schedule seems to change every year in terms of the mix of aircraft we see...not so much the time of departures as those have remained fairly consistent. The last two or three summers PDX has witnessed B767, B757-300, B757-200 and B737-900 on the ATL & JFK routes. I for one am looking forward to the A321 on the DTW route.

Construction for the new terminal will start on 17th of April. Light posts have been removed. The taxiway will be extended further east.

DL has just responded by adding more frequency to PDX-DTW: DL is adding another PDX-DTW flight making this market 2x daily starting just 1 day before the new AS PDX-DTW flight. Daytime PDX-DTW flight and morning DTW-PDX flight.

Overall PDX-DTW is going from 1x daily to 3x daily on both AS and DL.

Frontier's CLE-PDX nonstop was extended to the end of their booking window through the beginning of November. Last year this route ended mid August. Bookings must be good for this to continue past the peak summer season. Equipment is an A321.

PDX-KEF Icelandair is now 6 days a week from mid-June thru mid-August. They had originally announced 5x.

What does the ad say? Anything about Portland? If not, I'm assuming it's just a general ad targeting whoever.

Volaris is increasing frequency in July PDX to Guadalajara. It shows 0.4>0.6. Does that mean 6 days a week? It's 4 days a week now. Some cities are showing cutbacks US-Mexico, probably due to the Trump slump.

I find AC 1999 scheduled about now leaving PDX for Honolulu using the same 767, I assume.

There was a thread going on the Rouge diversion last night. A poster suggested smoke in the aft galley area. Looks like it was originally headed for EUG but went to PDX (which makes more sense). FlightAware posted EUG, but you can see on the map it went to PDX.

Well it looks like MFR may be losing the UA mainline to SFO. :indifferent: Per Enilria's weekly OAG report (I wait all week for that), service goes up in August (UA SFO-MFR AUG 4>6), with 2 mainline and 4 expresses, but I just looked at UA's website in for bookings in September; it shows only 4x daily, and with the CRJ-200 no less. Big fall-back if true. May need to wait for next weekends schedule change run in the UA system to see; perhaps these are just placeholders for the time being.

What does the ad say? Anything about Portland? If not, I'm assuming it's just a general ad targeting whoever.


I deleted cookies for AF and they still keep popping up. They can target by IP address. Wondered if all geog regions are getting the ads or just select areas.
