Correct me if i am wrong but AS used to serve BWI, correct? Regardless, I'm excited to see them back.

Finally the anticipated PDX-PHL is announced after floating on/off the AS schedules/route map.

It is complimentary to AA's seasonal PHL-PDX schedule. Though it is a rough redeye schedule landing in PHL before 5am.

0450 PHL arrival and 0605 PHL departure - that is clearly timed for some tight aircraft utilization! With AA switching this summer to a PDX RON (evening westbound turning to morning eastbound) on this route - believe it was an eastbound redeye in years past - this Alaska schedule will nicely compliment the AA flight.

Based on the time between the inbound and outbound ABQ flight, there appears to be another route coming, or a switch in the Seattle schedule to multiple QX flights.

Very exciting to see AS add PDX-MKE. I've been hoping for this flight since they added SEA-MKE. I wonder if AS will look to add SFO-MKE next.

Looking at the PDX-MKE schedule, is this the first regularly scheduled traditional redeye on a regional? I don't think I've seen one prior (or at least noticed).

AS does PDX-AUS on an E175 with an 23:59 departure time

So great to see another flight out of ABQ. WN runs ABQ-PDX but as a seasonal service only. AS's PDX-ABQ schedule is interesting with 6 hour layover in ABQ in the middle of a day.
PDX-ABQ 800a-1145a
ABQ-PDX 555p-755p

Off-topic, but single daily SEA-ABQ quietly becomes a RON service:
until mid-March SEA-ABQ // ABQ-SEA 1145a-334p // 435p-642p
after mid-March SEA-ABQ // ABQ-SEA 525p-925p // 850a-1058a

I have always wondered who the airlines target with such early red eye arrivals into non hub airports. You will be way too early for check in at hotels and it is a rough time for those picking you up from the airport at 5AM.

They serve SEA and LAX from BWI. Next March they also add SAN-BWI.

Alaska serves BWI from SEA / SAN / LAX and now seasonal PDX. They also run charter BWI-CUN service for Apple. Maybe Alaska used to operate seasonal service to BWI in the distant past, I don't know. But it's a nice add now.

Hopefully, Alaska or Virgin America will add SFO-BWI soon.

Southwest also operates seasonal PDX-BWI.

I've been waiting for a PDX-MKE flight; AS of course is the logical one to offer this service. Hopefully it'll do so well they'll change it to daily, year round. Now to get AA to start MKE-MIA......

Looks like there is room for a SAN turn if they want to compete with the current WN monopoly on this route, which is down to only 2 non-stop flights.

Example sked...

ABQ 12:35p
SAN 1:25p

SAN 2:20p
ABQ 5:00p

You just beat me to it D! Minutes ago, I came up with an almost identical schedule to fit in a SAN-turn. Like minds and all that...

Of course ABQ-LA-ABQ would prolly also fit, so we wait and see!

Interesting adds - looks to be striking back against WN in ABQ and BWI. I'm surprised not to see BNA or MSY included as those are the largest domestic markets without PDX service at around 115 PDEW. CLE would be good as well, although F9 serves the route seasonally.

Hoping that MSY will come in the fall - traditionally a stronger period for tourism - when some of these seasonal routes end.

This is good news.. looks like BWI is getting a lot of love from Alaska.. except Anchorage, it now covers all hubs and focus cities, right?

Alas, no RDU.. I guess they really aren't interested in adding more service. That's life!

What's the likely hood other east coast stations will get PDX service?

With the recent announcements out for SAN, I wonder if it might not be for another hub? Would SFO be a viable add in the allotted timeframe? Just curious.

My guess: too much expansion desired by AAG and EMJs not arriving in-house fast enough? The CR7s would allow almost immediate expansion on a temporary basis.

There is a PDX - DFW redeye on an E175. I think AUS is daytime but it is an E175.

I don't know the entirety of it, but I did notice most of the SEA-PDX-SEA legs I have scheduled over the next 3 months have been changed to OO CRJ700 equipment. Interesting.

What a/c were they originally? All Qs?

I would still say it has something to do with accelerated network expansion and not enough a/c to fuel the growth.

Yes, I should have mentioned that they were all Qs with the exception of some very occasional mainline repositioning.

I wonder if DL's SEA flight harms the chances of RDU getting PDX. Two flights seem like plenty for the Pacific Northwest for now. RDU-PDX is less than 100 PDEW which is pretty thin for a transcontinental flight. DEN, BNA, FAI, and MSY all seem like logical adds though.

I would tend to agree with RDU.

With the others, I just see DEN as a potential bloodbath, but maybe they are just leery after pulling out the first time.

Or maybe QX is running short of pilots. On airline pilots forum seems that the QX pilots are restless

Sorry, I don’t get your point: “With the recent announcements out for SAN…" Are you saying that AAG must be finished with expansion out of SAN? …

With the announced (PDX-ABQ) sked being 8 months out, these are approximate times, so in reality, anything is possible: SEA, SFO, SJC, LAX, SNA, SAN, etc. Or the plane could just sit in ABQ for 6+ hours! (Which I doubt but have seen happen more than once in the past.)

That being said, two of us here on A.net apparently and independently thought of the possibility of SAN, which fits perfectly in the time frame, and I happen to think is highly possible.

In fact, I’d take your comment and interpret it as: “With the recent announcements out of SAN, …it seems that AAG is very interested in continuing to grow that SoCal focus city. Perhaps to include ABQ.”

BTW, congrats to PDX for more destinations and flights from AAG! Nice to see this hub getting more and more service!

Ugh. Remind me not to comment on SAN in the future.

My ONLY POINT (if you want to even call "pondering" as making a point) was that IIRC they recently announced several routes ex-SAN, then today they announced several routes ex-PDX. Perhaps their next tranche of routes announced might be from yet another one of their hubs/focus cities? Otherwise, why not announce it at the same time as the other SAN adds?

NO DISRESPECT TO SAN DIEGO. IF THEY ANNOUNCE SAN DIEGO-ALBUQUERQUE, I'LL BE PERFECTLY HAPPY.

Looking at Alaskaair.com and our internal employee site, all I see are Q's on the route - no CRJ-700's. I also don't even know if they have access to the CR7's anymore. I'm pretty sure they're long gone.

Further digging, I found them too. I have to say, I'm really surprised, but maybe they're going to limit them to one or two routes where they don't currently fly the E-175? I have to say, I'm more than a little surprised.

There's even a random CRJ-200 floating around that flies SEA-PDX-BOI-SJC-BOI-PDX-SEA for a short time. It looks like they all go away in late March though. I imagine it's an equipment shortage that they're patching temporarily. Or... maybe a Pilot shortage?

Nothing wrong with the CRJ on the shorter sectors. Heck, I had no problem with them SEA-SoCal. Obviously the Ejet is better but if they are tight on frames and want to stay ahead of the game with DL et al, then I can see why they'd retain the flying.

Wow! I don't know what's more interesting - the growth at PDX (in the midst of DL's SEA expansion *and* the VX acquisition) or the growth in WN-dominated markets like ABQ and MKE that I figured were an afterthought for AS. Maybe this is a message to WN, or maybe it's an attempt to tap into AA FFer bases (MKE is an excellent alternate to ORD when it comes to Chicago's wealthy northern suburbs). Whatever the reasons, increasingly aggressive AS continues to be a fun airline to watch. I can't wait to see what they do next!
