Interesting they say differently somewhere else:

Only change on the Boeing site this week is identifying the 5 Okay B787s as previously unidentified. So they were in the unidentifieds even though the deal wasn't finalised (as above)?

The deal must have been finalized for Boeing to book the order. There could have been some non-financial / deal things that needed to be "finalized" such as agreement to announce order finalization, etc.

Chinese carrier orders are placed via China Aviation Supplies Holding Company (CASC) and are booked as Unidentified by Boeing until such time as CASC assigns them to an airline. So CASC would have placed the order, Boeing booked it as a UFO, and now that CASC has assigned them to Okay Airlines, Boeing moves them from UFO to Okay on their O&D site.

Only vaguely educated, based on the facts that they are less than 18 months from taking delivery of their final 787 on firm order; incremental top-up orders are their style; and they still have more 767 replacement ahead of them. No specific intelligence.
