Nice catch, thanks mate! I hadn't been paying enough attention to the Cape Air fleet out in Guam. Correction noted!

Wow! This thread has been going long enough for us to have completed the pmCO BF seats and the pmUA J seats and now we're starting again with Polaris.

If not this month, then probably this quarter. I suspect we'll see A330s at UAL.

The 10k forces their hand. UA is scheduled for Jan 19 release so we will know what the arrangement is then. As well, we will verify when the final two 789s arrive in Dec 2017 as allthings787 reports in his blog or as other say in 2018. We should also figure out what trades were made with Boeing on the 73G cancellation and if any additional 77Ws were ordered according to the anetters.

I feel like I'm missing a critical piece of information! Could somebody fill me in? I expected the cancelled 737 orders to be converted to more 77Ws (I think many of us anticipated them ordering more 77Ws for a while now), but what's up with the A35K orders? I would assume the idea would be to use the 77W as the 747 replacement instead of the A35K. How would the A330NEO fit in to the UA fleet unless they're 777 replacements?

My comment was in reference to this article about a month ago when the CFO said that they may convert some or all of the A35K orders into A359s or A330s. There was a big thread about it on here. Also, despite what many had speculated, the article makes no link between UA and an A321 order.

That's right -- I did see that. I missed the connection between that and the upcoming press release, since I think I just dismissed this as just another one of the million rumors that circulate around. I think it would be a smart decision since the A35K has not exactly sold well thus far, so I think going with the more popular model would be smarter. I don't know what the purpose of an A330 order would be unless they got great pricing. I think ordering more 77Ws though would be a smart move, so I hope that's a follow-up to all of this.

The A350 order may be modified but the Airbus haters need to realize they'll be coming in some form or another.

The current speculation for the A35K is swap to a combo of 359s and 321s ( no interest in 330s at all). 73Gs are now four 738s this year and the rest MAXs. 77Ws are possibly up to 11 more (swap for the Gs ???) E190s/Cseries are still a possibility as well.

What do you think? ~60 A321LR to replace all TATL and PS 752's and allow for some South American expansion? Not much risk, because they can be easily subbed onto more domestic or Hawaiian routes as markets shift. Question is, how happy is UA with the 753's. I think they are fuel efficient compared with other jets in that Pax # range, but when the 752's go, they will be an odd niche in the fleet.

I think they are fuel efficient compared with other jets in that Pax # range, but when the 752's go, they will be an odd niche in the fleet.

I'm not sure they would need that many, if any, to be honest. First, hasn't a lot of 752 flying shifted to domestic? And second, a good portion of the int'l 752 routes could be upgauged to a 763 now that they've delayed those retirements. Routes which can't support a 763 probably are worthy of being cut anyway (and some already have). They could just as easily replace the p.s. fleet with the new domestic 772s now that they're going lie flat F, or potentially even 739s (although I wonder how profitably they could fly in a low density config).

IF the A321LR is even necessary, I don't know why they'd need a fleet much larger than 25. By holding onto the 763s and taking further deliveries of 787s, 77Ws, and whatever comes of the apparent A35K-->A359/A339, that's a lot of additional capacity to bring on even with a draw down of the 752 fleet. IIRC, the p.s. configured 752s are the oldest in the fleet, so I could see them going in the next couple of years. The rest of the fleet still has life left in them, even if they're overdue for a cabin refresh. Given that they're keeping the 763s and apparently trying to emulate DL to a degree, I would anticipate many of those 752s staying around for close to another decade.

The 321LR stats say it has about 200nm extra range vs. 752. Not sure that would make it fuel stop proof from Germany. But if UA were to extend ps service to BOS-LAX/SFO & IAD-LAS/SFO 321LR and some Hawaiian flying could require a fleet of 50 or more to keep the aircraft common with TATL units.
Without Door 2, a 321LR could be more flexible on BF lie flat seating. 24F might be a good compromise for TATL and ps services.
Looking at the stats the 321LR takes a whooping 31% less total fuel than the 752 and has slightly longer range, indicating its efficiency.
Note that 21 of the 35 763ERs are older than every sCO 752, meaning they should be retired first.
The 753s are newer than all 763ERs and are perfect for Hawaii and hub-to-hub operations.

I don't think the domestic 772s on p.s. routes is a very good idea. Sure, the seats are lie flat in front, but there are only 28 of them — the same number of J seats in the sUA 752 — with 200+ more Y seats. Proportionally, that would mean a lot more high value flyers stuck in Y/E+. There's nothing "premium" about that configuration at all. UA has been putting 772s on p.s. routes in the last few months, but they've all been the 3-cabin international ones — most of which were the 772A models that have now almost all been converted into the 364 seat domestic configuration.

I can see a place for the A321 in UA's fleet, and I could see them taking a page out of AA's book by injecting some energy into p.s. with a nice new product on some nice new A321s. Or, alternatively, UA could take a page out of DL's book and start running more international widebodies on p.s. rotations. But I also don't think UA can get rid of the entire A350 order.

A potential UA A321 order seems contingent on whatever 737MAXLR-stretch that Boeing may be able to come up with and whether or not that is attractive to UA. I think that's too much of a known unknown to read the tea leaves as to what UA will do. I still think what KarelXWB suggested is very likely — UA may split the order into 359s and 35Ks, nothing more, nothing less.

N772UA is in NRT because of odor in the cabin. It will take some time to isolate.

Add 757-200 # 139 to the Scimitar added list. It is about a week behind #140.

N772UA is getting a engine change....

Just saw on Twitter that Airways Magazine has a story on the UA fleet. Probably took much of the data from the Fleet site, but that's fine.
https://airwaysmag.com/airlines/united- ... leet-plan/
This brings a question regarding the 772A conversions. I was assuming 772ER conversions would provide the lie flat BF seats to complete the converstion, but if the 763ER 3 class aircraft have the same BF seat, maybe the 763s will get converted first and allow needed seats.
Does anyone know if the 763 seats are the same and what the Polaris conversion plan is for the 763 and 772ERs?

Given that three specific 789s (Ships 0956,0966,0967) are crewed by sUA FAs, is it known if any of the new deliveries will be likewise?

Won't the FA's be able to cross fleets by the time those 789's enter service?

One is just delivered, second due next month. Third in 4th Q... crossover by then maybe, but not for 19th/20th aircraft.
Crewing depends on if specific aircraft is part of sCO or sUA premerger order.

Not surprising, but sad. I doubt I'll get another chance to fly on the 747, as I don't have any plans to go to Asia this year.

Hi.
On Monday I saw a 737-800 in SJO, with opened engine cowlings and scratched United titles.
It was RONing, or it is a broken a/c?
Or COOPESA is doing routine maintenance in UA 738?

If it happens, it'll be in the earnings report next Wednesday. I heard from another source a major fleet update is coming then as well.

Last I heard was switch to combo of 359 and 321s... but this news of 737-10MAX likely changes that. Either way we will all know soon enough.

The 75K fleet has yet to have the fuel tank modification and none have been scheduled to be modified, thus all will be gone by the end of 2018. I'd figure the A321 will end up replacing the fleet as the 737-10 MAX won't be ready until 2020. If I'm not mistaken, an additional 11 77Ws will be ordered.

I see the new "domestic" 772's on the EWR>DUB route in October. That's one way to compete with the $499 RT's from Aer Lingus.

With the latest Boeing weekly update, there was only 1 777 ordered. Possibly UA? Wouldn't be much of a top up order that many suspect is 11.

That flight you found may be a one off or a missfile. I checked a few random October dates and just see the exCO 772 and a 752 on the route.

UAL.com often has a lot of weird quirks with fleet types on weekends during maintenance and schedule updates. Sometimes you can find them showing Dash 8s flying TATL and other nonsense.
