Any information on how long the 3 777-300 will be in Short Term Storage?

This flew a little under the radar (at least I didn't see this here), but UA has selected a manufacturer for economy seats on the 787-10, A350, and 739MAX. UA will be the B/E Aerospace launch customer of the Aspire seat on the 787-10 and A350 and the Meridian seat on the 739MAX. I couldn't find any pictures of what they look like.

Now that UA is selecting seats for the A350, I wonder if the cancellation "rumors" will finally subside?

UA will also use Aspire seats on the 772 retrofits.

http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/2 ... Main-Cabin

Can't find anything on Aspire but WN is using a derivative Meridian on their newest aircraft.

http://www.airlinereporter.com/2015/10/ ... ian-seats/

Sounds like UAs will be slightly different with a tablet holder and in seat power.

Therein lies several possibilities. See one above at reply 391.
Another consideration is that at least two of the three are now officially owned by UA and are costing them big :dollarsign: :dollarsign: just sitting in bubblewrap.

Do we know how many 787-10, A350 and 739MAX will arrive in 2018? That's a pretty big year for UA tech ops to introduce 3 new units + a pretty comprehensive Polaris, Used Unit Induction and Slimline retro fit program.

Any knowledge (or just guesses) what registration groupings UA plans for these new types? NxxYYY or NyyyyU (doubt any NyyyUA) 78X likely Nxx980-994, A350 bet NyyyyU, Max Nyy601-99  :twocents:

Didn't notice it before, but as more and more of United's 757-224s get Scimitar winglets installed, noticed a couple of things. The ailerons look as though they received some work, there are patches on the outboard lower edge of the ailerons. ?The Scimitar tip caps, but also a approximately 6 inch extension of the trailing edge outboard of the ailerons with a noticeable downward curve.

N59034 or just 34, has been in 'induction' at SFO since 23rd Mar. That's quite a long time... what's up with that? :alert:

Looks like Houston 787 base future might be in doubt.
Starting winter, IAH base 787 flying will be moved to IAD. 4 IAD routes - CDG, GRU, LHR and PEK will be flown on the 787.
Current IAH 787 flights will be backfilled using 763 and 772 equipment.

I wonder how this will affect DEN-NRT, will it then be rotated through IAD?

This aircraft is scheduled to be released from maintenance on April 9. They have been calling in Cabin and R&E skill overtime to work on it for many days now. If you have access to TOCS 2.0, you can see that there is A LOT of work that goes into getting the airplane ready. SFO can only induct one airplane at a time since there isn't enough hangar space and man power.

I wish I did have TOCS access... oh well. 34 seems to be taking more time than the first three though. I expected the one-at-a-time, since 35 is in SEA.

A nice selection of flights for IAD. How many units? UA has one new one in Aug and two in Dec, one in Jan, one in Feb so I'm surprised at the need to remove from IAH as they will have lift coming online.

I think we should get used to these changes over the next 18 months with the 77W, 5 78('s, + ? 78J + ? A350 to be delivered between now and the end of 2018.

There is a post on another thread suggesting UA has deferred the 350s for now...apparently their first 5 production slots have been allocated to other airlines.

I think it'll come from SFO. In the summer schedule, that's already kind of happening with the 787 rotation through DEN being IAH-DEN-NRT-DEN-SFO (there are 2x SFO-IAH flights on the 788 and 1x IAH-SFO).

Also, this summer IAD already has two 789 flights: IAD-CDG and the late IAD-LHR. The routings are SFO-LHR-IAD-LHR-SFO and SFO-CDG-IAD-CDG-SFO. I wonder if IAD-GRU and IAD-PEK will be on the 788 or the 789? I'd think IAH-GIG will go back to a 772 from the current 788. That's actually the only international 787 flight from IAH this summer as IAH-FRA has been moved back to the 772.

Sad to see IAH lose the 787 base, even though it is being back filled with 777 and 763 equipment which is a upgauge in capacity.

If true, that's indeed noteworthy, and a.net might just break the Internet, between the "I told you so" and the "Fake News!" commentators.

I've wondered about what all kinds of things are in this induction process too. Isn't the aircraft as-delivered at PAE finished to United's specs? Just put the United-branded stuff in the seat back pockets and go? It just seems like Boeing Everett is better equipped to build the aircraft than UAL Maintenance SFO.

I'm certain there's a lot I don't understand. But I'm teachable.

It should because it's hig udgement until the
airplanes
hly likely we're getting the airplanes. I think Senior management frittered away too much time with indecision in Not taking them and now has to "Fish or cut bait". Since it Appears we're preparing to get them this entire conversation appears to be academic BUT!! I'll reserve my final judgement until the 'airplanes are on the
ground at SFO sitting in front of Dock 1 or OR Dock 2 going through receiving inspections. I'll be retired by then but I live in the
area and I'll sure come to town to see them.. I'll be leaving with my Iconic B747 later this year. I was here with the B747-122, -123. -238B - SP21,-SP27. -222B,-422 and -451's the B737--222,-291,-322,-522. the A319, A320. Not wishing to dispute what you wrote here, but FlightAware says it returned to SFO after just under 3 hours on the ground at IAD on March 20th, and it has never even visited LHR!

You are right. Sorry. I've been told that it's going to LHR from IAD, but later that day when I checked it went to SFO.
I don't know why I wrote LHR.

Were winglets installed while in Maintenance? I've seen a few UA 763s without winglets...come to do some research; I found out all the non-winglet ones are old 3-class configs. So I was curious if UA decided to add them on while its there in MX.

When the first batch were converted to two class, they received winglets at the same time while in mod. I assume that the new conversions will be similar, but the major issue hanging things up right now is the availability of Polaris seats.

Ok thanks for the update are Newark and San Francisco the only airports with the B77W based there?

As of now SFO is the 'base' and EWR/HKG are the only destinations. I've heard the ultimate goal is SFO/EWR.

Looks like Houston 787 base future might be in doubt.
Starting winter, IAH base 787 flying will be moved to IAD. 4 IAD routes - CDG, GRU, LHR and PEK will be flown on the 787.

Glad to hear that. IAD-PEK is currently on a 772 with the dreaded 2-4-2 config in C. With the 787, it will be a 2-2-2 layout. I've avoided UA on this route specifically because of the 2-4-2 config.

I did a sample pricing in November and it's still showing the 772 on the route, but I imagine they will update it in the system soon.

Ah, but the question is what sort of paint? Standard or something extra?

Are the delivery problems they are experiencing with the Polaris seats effecting the scheduled refits of the 767's and 772's?

Also, I read here that UA was considering a newly designed E+ seat, not just a regular Y seat with extra legroom, but a larger seat, better recline and footrest - any truth to that?

United has said they are exploring true Premium Economy, but it probably won't be an upgrade to economy plus. That way they'll still be able to charge extra for exit rows and such. We don't yet know the details, but I'm sure they are serious about it, as DL and AA have already announced it. Unfortunately, no time frame mentioned, but I would expect an announcement later this year, putting UA only a year behind competition, despite having introduced Y+ 10 years before AA and DL copied that.

Most likely maintenance but hopeful it has Polaris :)

Just MX. No Polaris still in 3-cabin configuration.

Unfortunately you are correct :( N642UA back in operations tonight on ORD-LHR. So looks like simple heavy maintenance in XMN. No Polaris. No stripping of F class. No winglets. No nothing!

Just a small correction here...it's actually en route from ORD>CDG!

I believe they don't plan on starting the 772 retrofits until next year and the 763s were put on hold until UA finishes reviewing its widebody fleet plan. Might hear something about that on the upcoming earnings conference call.

If they keep these birds, probably makes sense to put them in the old pmCO lie flat config like their sisters. With a lifespan of less than 10 years or so, they would be the last converted. Makes more sense to upgrade the longer term 777's and 764's first, especially PMUA 777's. Using the used seats would achieve two goals: 1) lower capital costs and 2) alleviate whatever issue the seat manufacturer is having with delivery.
