Me too, and those were the days when I was flying on business A LOT, and that means I flew on many, many 727s, especially Air Canada's 233s. But my most memorable 727 flight was on LADECO in Chile from Santiago to Concepcion. And it was a shorty, a -100 series! Built in 1964, and it was in pristine condition, clearly a well-loved and well cared-for bird. The flight was memorable because we flew down along the Andes at sunset, in clear weather. The view outside was simply spectacular.

Air Canada was the longest 727 runs I ever did, they flew them non-stop from YUL to YVR which was just about on the range limit of the aircraft with a decent payload. A couple of full YUL-YVR flights in summer seemed to barely stagger into the air.

My other 727 experiences were mostly on AA, DL, PA and I think Eastern.

Yeah, they have 3 722F's as of this last fall.

what tail #?

The tail #'s are N495AJ, N395AJ, and N598AJ.
N495AJ and N395AJ are currently operating flights. I thought N598AJ was being used, but it appears it is not currently active.

I saw N621AZ in JNB today.
Not sure if it newly arrived or was towed out of a maintenance hangar, but was good to see 3x B727's today on the ramp.

I'm in DSM and I just pulled up flight aware to see what time my pop's arrives and see Kalitta flight 512 from SDF arrived last night. I can't see any scheduled departure but would love to see it take off. Unfortunately it's parked at the cargo ramp so really no great spotting to be had. It's a 727-200.

Driving past EWR this morning on the Turnpike there was a all White 727 taxiing either after arrival or for departure. Reminded me of the days that DHL used park their 727s on a hardstand right next to the Turnpike. It would site there all day and fly at night, many posters on here used to think it was abandoned there not realizing it was operating everyday.

There are currently 5 727's at ILN that were sold to an unknown operator. Of the 5, 2 will be made airworthy using parts from the other 3. The are all former Capital Cargo Airlines aircraft.

Any chance its USA Jet? The one they have came from there as well, being a former Capital bird.

USAJet only has 1 727, N727US. They do however have 6 DC-9s (3 -10 and 3 -30), an MD83 and 3 Falcon 20's.

The DC-9's are pretty common at YIP, actually saw one take off earlier this morning as I was doing my pre-flight.

No mention yet of M-FTOH.

Spoke to the pilot at Cotswold AIrport Open Day in September 2017, who said it flyable.

Also saw it doing an engine run earlier this month.

With how difficult JT8D parts have become to find, I have wonder how much research a new operator did prior to EIS.

What is the degree of commonality between the -217 used on the 727 and the -217C on the 82 and -219 on the 83 and 88?

Most of this thread is from 11 months ago, so 32 was correct at the time ;-)

In terms of longevity stakes, it seems like the 727 is outdoing the 707 and DC-8 from a basic glance, perhaps a factor of the number that were built? I have been planning to do a 727 fleet thread like I did for the 707, DC-8 and 747, but I haven't had time yet.

By cost, about 80%. The fan diameter was increased, resulting in a new low spool for the MD-80. And it is the -17 on the 727.

All JT8D external parts are becoming dear. The vendor supply chain was shut down 3 years ago. AA had a treasure trove of old parts on hand they are burning down. DL bought parts on the last production runs. But everyone expected AA to keep to retirement schedule instead of deciding to use their parts in house. G4 and DL are looking at earlier retirement due to parts issues.

How many 727s are flying? It cannot be many.
