College Bowl Charters

Fri Dec 16, 2016 3:52 pm

Hi Everyone,

The College Bowl Season is soon upon us. I'm curious to see who can find airlines that teams are chartering for the games. So far, I think I've identified Allegiant as flying San Diego State and Houston to the Vegas Bowl. Looks like both teams got in earlier in the week.

Flights:

San Diego State:http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY4401/history/20161213/2300Z/KSAN/KLAS
Houston:http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAY4401/history/20161214/2230Z/KHOU/KLAS

AAY 4401 cancelled a 2:00pm departure PVU-SAN with the BYU Cougars headed to the Poinsettia Bowl. After delaying boarding to 4:30pm due to weather visibility combined with a VOR outage, the trip cancelled at dusk shortly after 5:00pm. The team and staff boarded buses for a ramp to ramp connection to a backup aircraft at SLC. As of 10:00pm that flight has not departed, 8 hours of delay so far.

AAY 4401 finally out and off at 10:28pm from SLC, arriving SAN at 11:15pm just ahead of curfew, and 8 1/2 hours delayed. Tough day.

Just a heads up, there is no Arrival curfews, just departures for SAN

The charter is leaving from LCK tomorrow (12/26) at approximately 3:30pm..UA #2246 aircraft N120UA.

United bird (N175UA) is carrying both Nebraska (#2210) and Penn State (#2209) on the 12/26. DEN-LNK-BNA-IAD -MDT-LAX-

A DL 757 (N551NW) flew XNA-CLT yesterday in what I assume is some sort of charter for Arkansas playing Virginia Tech in Charlotte this upcoming Thursday. Came in from MCO and went back to MCO after CLT.

DL 767 ferried MCO-TLH to pick up Florida State Seminoles. Flew them to FLL then ferried back empty to MCO.

Don't know if it's been mentioned already but my Razorbacks hopped on a DL 752 to CLT for their Belk Bowl date with Virginia Tech.

Go Hogs!

Very disappointed to have heard that the Iowa Hawkeyes will be using two 737s to go to TPA for the Outback Bowl supposedly arriving Friday morning and Saturday morning not sure what carrier they will be using or who the Florida Gators will be using.

Looks to be landing too close to sunset. :(

Hopefully they'll depart earlier than planned. If so...and if the weather holds...I might trek up there to see it.

Penn State flying to LAX via MDT for the Rose Bowl on a 744, UA2209.

The team usually flies from its home airport (SCE) on a 738, but the larger traveling party for a bowl game requires them to bus 90 minutes down the road to MDT to accommodate the larger plane.

I wouldn't feel too bad. TCU couldn't or wouldn't get their hometown carrier to send them to their bowl in style and they hitched a ride on two 737s from Xtra and Swift instead. Then again, with the season they've had, maybe that's the best they deserve...

Yes I saw on twitter Kirk Ferentz (head coach) walking up stairs with a large red engine in the background (obviously not a cfm 737 engine). It's a 772 and I think they flew them out to Pasadena last year as well.

The winner of the Ohio State-Clemson game will face the winner of Alabama-Washington.

I think one of those flights was for the defense and the other was a fan charter. Maybe on the next bowl trip they will add a plane to take the offense with them.

Not just the team charter on the 744. MDT is set for a busy busy day, There is the team UA 744(N197UA) plus another UA 744(N118UA) UA752(N57111) and southwest has 5 737's and Allegiant has a 319 all on the LAX-MDT route today.

Looks like 5 Miami Air flights in total

Departures from TPA

Monday
-----------------
7:30pm
8:00pm

Tuesday
----------------
8:00am
11:30am
6:45pm

Looks like an AtlasAir 767-300 left at 11:00am

So what airports should I be looking for with the championship game?

I'm guessing

Alabama would be BHM
Clemson would be GSP

they're so close, I wonder if we would see many flights as opposed to buses/driving.
