I don't know when but I just saw a video of a Flydubai take off from Kandahar airport and it was from December 2016 so it wasn't too long ago.

Fri Jun 02, 2017 5:11 pm

Emirates has signed a memorandum of understanding with King Fahad International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The airline and the airport will explore more ways for cooperation and take the services offered to a new level.
The airport has proposed to Emirates to start international flights from the city.

Traffic in BEY is up 30% in April compared to last year. A rather surprising result for BEY given that the numbers were flat for the first 3 month compared to last year. The airport handled 720472 passengers in April 2017 compared to 557419 in April 2017. Total aircraft movements are up 7.1% for the same period. (Source Airport website).

Any ideas what can cause such a wild fluctuation? The airport has been operating as the de facto airport for both Lebanon and Syria for a number of years. So nothing new there. I've noticed more airlines switching to wide-bodies recently including Ethiopian (767/788/77L), Qatar (330/77W/788), Kuwait (330/77W/340). All those switches were many months before the summer season.

Hisham.

All Iranian carriers are to suspend service to Najaf from 1st July due to high airport fees.

The Association of Iranian Airlines (AIRA) announced that all Iranian airlines will suspend their services to Najaf in Iraq as of July due to exceptional high airport fees. Since 2010, all flights landing at Al Najaf International Airport must pay a fee of $85 in addition to the existing fees. Furthermore, the airlines are obliged to pay $15 per passenger apart from the $10 per passenger paid by themselves upon arrival at the airport..

Seems Kuwait Airways still intent on expansion.

Chicago or Washington wanted in the US, and Seoul, Manchester and Sarajevo all considered.

Given KU currently cannot serve the US direct at the moment, I wonder if the fact Manchester is in the list means ORD or IAD could be served via MAN, but in both directions rather than 1 direction like the KU117.

KU did plan on moving the KU117 to MAN earlier this year, so KWI-MAN-ORD/IAD-MAN-KWI could be a way to fill something like the B777 with 2 routes in one go?

It's being reported by Al Ahram Online that MS expects the US electronics ban to be lifted next week.

Probably a case of wait and see.

(See: http://tinyurl.com/y8l6m6xw )

No mention of any of the affected points of origin having the ban lifted, on all flights, not specific carriers, by the UK authorities as yet.
