Volotea 717 retirement schedule?

Fri Nov 25, 2016 6:20 am

Hi all

Does anyone knows Volotea's 717 retirement schedule? I know that Hawaiian is taking some (2?), where will the others go?

Thanks, 717fan

If I were to guess, HA will take more or some will either go to Australia or Delta Airlines.

With DL ordering the C Series I don't think that they are interested un acquitting more.

EI-FBK 55182/5138 going to Hawaiian has crossed the pound via Keflavik this week and is in Florida since wednesday.

The CapEx for a 717 vs a CSeries would still make the 717 a very appealing aircraft

Considering the prices DL bought CS100s, money will be saved the first day they roll into the fleet on fuel and maintenance (mostly engine, but the C-series fuselage will save money on longer intervals, mostly due to improved materials).

The question is will DL want more capacity? Parts?

Or Volotea doesn't find buyers and perhaps expands faster. Oh, some will be bought. But with increased production of 737s, A320s, and a ramp of the C-series and soon the E2-195...

It might be time.

They may be interested in a used 717 for the parts.

I think I got ahead of myself last post. Did I miss a large A320 order by Volotea? Until they find used A319s (or I suspect A320s for the right price), the 717s will have time.

We have an announcement that they would be buying used A319s (see link below), but I haven't seen any PR on a commitment beyond another 5. That isn't enough to replace their entire 717 fleet. So is Volotea shrinking (dramatically), committed to more Airbus that I missed, or will there replacement be over an extended time frame? I suspect the last with the rate dependent upon the price of A319s and 717s.

Seriously, I tried to find any new significant commitment. With NEO and soon MAX deliveries progressing, I think used A319 values will drop a little. But only a little as the parts are worth so much for the large A320 family fleet.

Note: Per wikipedia all five outstanding A319 commitments are due for delivery in 2017 to Volotea.

As a side note, Volotea is in many ways a uniquely run airline. Not Allegiant's business model by any means, but unique as Allegiant is in their business model.

This had me curious, so I did a small amount of research. It turns out Volotea has some of the youngest 717s. So it is very likely these will be desired.
http://www.airfleets.net/listing/b717-3.htm

Aircraft with first flights in 2003, 2004, 2006, and even one with a first flight in 2006. Ok, some as old as 2000 and such. But in general, these are 2nd half production 717s. Five from the last year. I fully realize that with only a 8 year production run, the spread of ages of the 717 isn't like an A320... But any plane young enough to have not yet been through the 2nd heavy maintenance interval (once upon a time called a D-check interval prior to 'phased maintenance'), is more valuable than a plane more than 14 years of age.
