Cobalt flights show up as Continental on Google Flights!

Sat Nov 12, 2016 7:57 pm

Looking up flights from the London area to Cyprus, I saw a weird option: Continental. I took a quick double take and then saw the cobalt website. Shows up with the globe logo and everything. I guess Google hasn't updated the codes :)

I experienced the same thing last week when booking a flight on Chengdu Airlines (EU) via a Chinese travel agency--it said my flight was on Ecuatoriana, a former airline in Ecuador.

What are the biggest airlines that have shared a code? Best I can come up with is TZ:
-1973-2008: ATA, the IND- and MDW-based airline that Southwest bought
-2009-2012: air-taxi Europe, a German charter airline
-2012-present: Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ longhaul LCC

I am quite sure the poster is saying that the code BE was once used by BEA and is now used by Flybe, not that BEA has become Flybe.

Exactly. BEA became Flybe. But Ozark did not become Asiana.

I had it kind of sideways. I did not know that BEA became Flybe. However, I do know that Air Illinois (UX) did not become Air Europa.

I don't think flyBe has any direct heritage to BEA.
British European Airways (BEA) merged into British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) to form British Airways.
Jersey European was formed by merger of Walker Aviation various airlines into Jersey European in 1985. It was renamed British European in 2000 and flyBe in 2002. flyBe has never been part of BA, but it did buy parts of the BA regional business (BA Connect) in 2006.

WW was used by bmibaby until IAG wound it up. It's now used by WOW Air.

My mistake. Flybe was at a time named British European, but it is not related to British European Airways.

Nesma Airlines of Saudi Arabia now shows up as North American Airlines. Kinda funny seeing a US flag on a Saudi domestic flight :D
