JetBlue at EWR

Sat Oct 29, 2016 7:34 pm

Just noticed that JetBlue has gates #16A, 16B, 17 and common use gate 18. Was gate 16 recently split? Used to just be single gate. Is this part of their EWR expansion once the flight restrictions are lifted?

Well tomorrow is the day... so it wouldn't surprise me.

LGA-BOS begins Monday and they're ending LGA-RSW,TPA&SRQ today and instead adding Florida frequencies from EWR.

Any plans for more B6 gates in EWR? The station ops folks seemed to think more were on the way.

Check that. TPA & RSW get EWR flights, but SRQ gets shafted...as usual, :x

Actually, the daily SRQ flight out of JFK (which was cut during the summer) is being resumed on Monday, so there's no decrease in service :D

As someone who lives in NYC, I strongly prefer EWR and JFK. LGA is fine to arrive at, but the departure experience at that airport just sucks.

LGA is just too messy right now with construction. The unknown and seemingly endless delays into/out of the airport negate the one positive LGA had: convenience

1. You cant park

2. You cant get in or out of airport

3. Cab lines wrap around the terminal because cabs cant arrive or leave fast enough (due to traffic) to keep up with arriving passengers

4. Starting shortly, the one out you had (walking) will end as they are closing some of the walkways for construction

And the worst part of 1-4 is how unpredictable it all is.

I cant even say it is rush hour or at night or you are good midday. You could be...or you could be leaving your cab on the Grand Central exit ramp to walk to your flight.

It is a mess. A huge mess to be avoided if at all possible

Gate 16 is not a split gate.
It is also used for the daily Air Canada Flight to YVR on the 787. Comes in around 4:30 - 5:00 pm and leaves around 7:00 pm
When UA had those gates; Gate 16 was always a widebody gate. I think that 15 and 16 are widebody gates (since there is no Gate 13).
Gate 18 is a common use gate, but B6 uses it mainly. WestJet uses it seasonally for their Calgary flight in the summer.

Don't know if B6 will be getting any more gates. A-1 is full; of course A-2 (UA) is full, and A-3 has AA; Virgin America; and Alaska.
B-1 will be full with DL occupying most of it; UA now uses Gates 40 & 41 for some domestic ops; and probably another carrier would be in B-1.
Where would B6 get another gate? Unless AC moves out of A-1 (Gates 11&12) to B-2 - which is all international. But I doubt that this would happen, IMHO.

Actually...I knew all of that. There were 2 flights before the JFK cut....there was a LGA flight and a JFK flight....now theres only a JFK flight, with no pick-up of EWR. And to top it all up...no 2nd JFK flight this winter...so, yeah...a shaft. :o

Ah, right your are!
I guess the one benefit of SRQ not seeing added service is that it'll continue to the be pleasurable experience that it is. SRQ is the anti-LGA.

I noticed gate 16 is still split into 16A and 16B.
did they actually split it at the end?
the departures for JetBlue lists 16A and 16B,
sometimes within 30 minutes of each other.

The few times I flew our of A-3 on AA last year, the gates felt very underutilized. Could have just been time of day, but I don't remember more than 3 or 4 (at most) gates being 'active' with people waiting for departures.
