Tue Oct 18, 2016 10:14 am

Seems #1 is firmly in final assembly now.

“We have started with a very tight development schedule and are today right on time,” says Odile Jubécourt, Airbus head of the A330neo program. “I am happy to say we are in good shape to meet the high standards of maturity and reliability our customers expect from us and I want to thank the teams for this outstanding achievement.”

It's exciting to have another new type production thread, and looking forward for the first 777X Production thread as well. However, I don't see a need for calling Part 1 when the new update for the site.

Thnx. It seems the tail is complete. Which wouldn't be a challenge. I haven't seen the Trent 7000 Wing pylon's though.

The T7000 should be pretty far down the line now, benefitting from T1000 Ten lessons learned.

Will it be flight tested on N787RR?

The first T7000 comprising the full bill of materials has been conducting ground tests in the last week or two. What those tests were and any results I have no information on , sorry

I am confused, what is that circular light blue thing in the background? It looks too huge to be the cowling for a 330NEO...

The T7000 has a 112" dia fan, the same size as the T1000 on the B787, so it will look
a lot bigger than the T700 it replaces.

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe it's an optical illusion, they look huge.... rather like sections for a swimming pool....

Hopefully they'll re-register it N330RR for T7000 testing purposes. More realistically, I'd expect the A380 testbed (F-WWOW) to be used.

Not sure why the 787-10's production is relevant to a thread about the production of the A330neo, but for the record the first 787-10 began fuselage assembly back in March and should be entering the FAL in CHS any day now.

There isn't much to report on the A330neo at the moment because it is undergoing final assembly - there are hardly any changes to the frame. Apart from the redesigned wingtips and interior, the only other major part is the RR Trent 7000 engine. I guess the next major announcement will be when the first test airframe completes final assembly and goes into the paint shop.

I believe pre-assembly of the first A330neo started in September last year.

Apart for the wing pylon, that appears to have more resemblance to the A350, aerodynamic improvement seems to be incorporated in the wingbody fairing.

Wing tips that significantly extend the wing span, engines, electronic/electrical bleed control instead of pneumatic. We see on the first pictures that there are some aerodynamic refinements regarding the wing body fairings. The new cabin should be similar to the A350.
There was talk about weight reduction, compensating partly for the increased weight of the engines. There was talk about a soon to come raise of the MTOW to 245 t.

Are you sure that this package wasn't part of the 242 t version (with flaps fairing) ?

Much better looking than the A330ceo (those fancy wingtips make a big difference in the looks-department). When is first flight scheduled?

Isn't that reworked wing-to-body fairing somewhat like the one that is meant to shorten take-off/landing rolls on the A32x?

I disagree with the sky is falling statement. 6 weeks or 3 months is not too bad. The A330neo was already on an aggressive schedule. The airlines probably are not surprised. Fortunately the customer base Is relatively small and more manageable than other programs. When was the last time Airbus delivered a new derivative according to the original schedule? It just doesn't happen in this industry. The fear is that engine delays at this point could be a precursor to another PW1100G debacle. Let's hope that is not true.

Engines are usually tested on a 747 or other four engine plane. The the Trent XWB was test flown on an A380 in February 2012 more than two years before the first A350 delivery. Obviously the A330neo is on a tighter development schedule.

The RR Trent 1000 TEN was certified this year but only had its first flight on the B787 test bed, ZA004, earlier this month. See:
http://www.rolls-royce.com/products-and ... pdate.aspx

I would imagine the Trent 7000 schedule to closely track that of the Trent 1000 TEN.
