DL L-1011-250 Or -500?

Mon Jun 21, 1999 1:32 pm

I know it's a long shot, but I'll ask anyway:

In April of '97, I flew ATL-MAD-BCN-MAD-ATL on DL (L-1011's). Is there any way to figure out specifically what type of aircraft it was? I didn't record the registration numbers of either aircraft, so I can't look it up that way. Did (does) DL fly both their -250's and -500's internationally?

Also - I have a DC-10 segment booked in August on UA for ORD-DTW. Will it be a DC-10-10 or DC-10-30?

Thanks for any help,

Well... there are always really weird exceptions, but almost definately, you were on a L1011-500 and will be on a DC-10-10.

About the L-1011, if the coach section was divided into two cabins, it was a -500. If it was divided into three cabins, it was a -250.

According to DL's latest timetable, they no longer fly trans-atlantic L-1011s. The last route was ATL-SHN/DUB, which I believe switched over to a 763 in either April or June. I believe all L10s are not operated solely domestically, albeit on a much reduced schedule, operating mainly longer distance flights from ATL.
Recently, I've flown N1732D, a -1 from LGA-ATL, and N1734D, another -1 CVG-LGA. These two flights are the last two DL tristar service out of LGA. Its a great change to fly on one of these huge trijets rather than the usual MD88 or 757! They will be missed.

I will be flying on my first tristar flight from ATL-DFW during my brief July4 vacation. Hope it doesn't get cancelled or substituted by another aircraft ...
