Factual question in polls and preferences?

Fri Sep 14, 2018 12:43 am

I am curious...

This afternoon I posted a question trying to determine which airline flew a historical route and one of the moderators decided that question did not belong in "Civil Aviation" but in "Polls and Preferences."

Can a moderator explain to me how asking a question to get clarification on a FACT is considered a poll or preference?

Thank you.

The best way to receive an explanation for a moderator action is to email us at moderators@airliners.net.

I was not the moderator that took this action, nor am I familiar with your thread so I can't speak specifically, but sometimes thread placement is simply a judgement call. Not everything is clear cut as to which forum a thread belongs — sometimes it's an interpretation or a matter of opinion, and usually someone gets upset or way or the other.

The moderator who took this action may have interpreted your request for a historical route to be a poll. I may or may not agree with that at face value, but each moderator interprets things somewhat differently unless it's something blatantly obvious. Similar threads pop up often in Civil Aviation, and we often get complaints from users believing it should be in a different forum. The moderator may have sided with the complaint (if indeed there was one), and depending on how your thread was worded, it may have made their decision easier.

Like I said, send us an email for an explanation from that particular moderator, but I assure you it wasn't done with the intention of hurting your thread or making you upset, it was just a judgement call.
