Apologies for this topic if it’s been done recently. A quick search didn’t reveal anything.

Just wondering the merits of likes and dislikes added to peoples' comments. I look from time to time to see if this has been implemented.

Cheers
Dino

Edit: possibly an Anet app??? Just putting it out there :)

Adding like or dislike buttons does not seem to be something that would end well and people might try to use different tricks to get more likes and comments might also be more polarized due to this. I recall that in the past there were other systems that would allow users to show their appreciation on certain posts but I forget what the system was like.

It was a “respected” user function and people , IMO, really got big heads the more respected they got.

There was, indeed, a ranking system in place many years ago. I'd say it was probably 15 years at this point. I'm not 100% sure how it worked, but I seem to recall a star-ranking system. Anyway, I do remember that it quickly devolved into a way for people to down vote topics from users they didn't like, and it quickly wore out its welcome.

Indeed another type of "ranking" that was a feature of the old site. I agree with you, and IMO it's usefulness was questionable. A lot of very knowledgeable people had a high respect rating, but others were, shall we say, interesting. Conversely, a lot of otherwise very knowledgeable people didn't play the "RR" game and so their rating was quite low. I don't know that it really adds any value to a site like this. I think most of us can generally decide for ourselves who and what to value.

Like and Dislike buttons often lead to abuse of the function..... I've seen it happen many times on forums....

The people who dislike the RR feature are those who never had a 100RR. :duck: I wonder if anyone did actually get the formula for that...

What should come back is the premium membership features, like the lifetime premium membership. I'm an ancient relic from the past, so I remember that. ;)

 I vaguely remember Johan finally posting the formula at some point, but I may be wrong on that.

I agree with this. It's something a lot of us have asked for. So far the powers that be have been somewhat hesitant to bring back paid membership. I'm not entirely sure why that is. But, we're continuing to push for it.
