Airliners.net is moving to the Google Cloud Platform

Thu Jul 26, 2018 11:07 pm

Hello All

We'd like to inform the Community that we are moving the site of Airliners.net to the Google Cloud Platform hosting service. This will take a little while and we expect some issues to appear but having migrated many other sites we're aware of the issues that may arise and will act on them if necessary. We expect the migration will take place on Monday 30th July EST and we expect the site to be down for up to one hour as the migration takes effect.

If you are having any problems or notice any issues please report them in the site related thread or the Community talk on our Facebook page and we will address them as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance,
Team VerticalScope

Looking forward to the transition to GCP.

UPDATE:

"We're beginning the prep work now, this will take around 30-60min to complete, the site will be taken offline after this prep is finished. The expected downtime is around 30 minutes.
After the site has come back online there will be a period of time where recent images will not appear, these will slowly re-appear over the following 12-16hours."

A quick photo/screening related update:
- There is a chance that photos that were accepted since Sunday will not show right away. These photos are not missing, but just 'in transit' (the 12-16h window that Jeff mentioned above).
- We have stopped screening until the site is back online, this to reduce the possibilities of actual missing images.
- Photos screened after the site is back online should show up just fine.

Hi, it appears that none of my images are showing up. Also, there are quite a few photos missing from when I enter a search such as a location or registration. Is this something that was expected?

Thanks

The site is now live, please report any issue here.

There will be some issues with user profiles and images for the next 12-16 hours while they sync.

Then that accounts for it. I found all my images disappeared just now.

It appears that 1000 views were subtracted for this pic...

It was at 7.4K before and it started again at 6.4K. Are these views recorded somewhere or they are simply gone?

I pinged the Tech Team to look into this standby.

Small update regarding screening: we will need to wait until the sync is complete. An ETA is not available, but likely won't be in less than 6 hours. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

I don't know if this is something you can fix, but I noticed that with older trip reports links, instead of linking to that trip report is just jumps back to the homepage. Is there any way you can look into that?

I was so scared at the first moment, so I decided to check if there was a discussion in the forum, now I'm a little calmer, I hope it will work out soon.

B.T.W. : I think you should to "stick" this cluster at the top of the page.

Best regards,
Erezms.

What's going on? The uploaded pics on the site were almost 800k and now they are only 1600...Looks like another "successfull" update.

Hi Solro

We've had to restart the search indexing which is why the number is low as it is currently running albeit at not such a fast pace we expect everything to be back to normal by the A.M. USA local time. We're doing very limited screening and no emails are being generated but that will be sorted out in the morning. Any other issues please let us know.

I'm currently having issues uploading pictures in the queue to get screened is this intentional or a bug? It just tosses me a error 500 when I try to submit them

Hi there

That's a bug though I managed to upload a shot with no problems 2 hours ago. Log out and log back in again to see if that helps if not I will report it to the developers.

UPDATE:

Teams are actively working on fixes today.

Photo albums are still indexing so will take some time for them to reappear with the number of images on this site.

Standby for updates.

I was told that it's one of the things that will be implemented as part of this move. But Jeff can probably clarify that.

While I am an active participant in the Civil Aviation forum, I have found today that all my activity between September 2017 and July 24 2018 is no longer posted. I sure hope that there is no data loss that will happen as part of this migration, for this community is about user contributed content. Fingers crossed.

I am not able to mark topics read in the Civil Aviation forum. When I click "Mark Topics Read" I get an AJAX error.
I get this same error with four different browsers. Interestingly, all the other forums like Non-Av, Trip Reports, Tech Ops, etc.
work just fine and I am able to mark topics read. I have logged out/in and have cleared cookies and still get the error.
This started happening a couple days ago.

Hello again,
The photos on the site are fine now, but there is a new problem:
I do not get the emails from the team.
Yesterday I sent two appeals.
I see (in the "photo-corner") that one appeal was accepted, another appeal was rejected, I see also that the senior screener add a personal message in the email he sent me, but I did not receive any email.
Please check this problem.

We're aware of the mail issue and are working to resolve it. Our IPs changed so we need Google to change our mails to the new IPs. We hope this will happen on the 1st but as we're reliant on Google it may take a day longer

Yes that is next on the list once we sort the few issues with GCP

I believe this is related to berari's post above.

I assume the forum search function issue has been acknowledged? After the platform change when I search for something the latest results on the first page seem to be ending to October of last year and then directly followed by results (if there are any) post platform change. So something seems to be missing between October 2017 and August 2018. It's the same when clicking "Search user’s posts" on people's profile pages.

This is the same for me as well. I assume that since it has not resolved now that is just "lost?"
