iPad - Much wasted space when reading due to avatars

Wed Jul 11, 2018 7:53 pm

I tried using the site on an iPad mini for the first time, and due to the poor information density, it's really scroll intensive.

The main issue is that the avatars are huge and on the left, which both minimizes the usable width and results in wasted space for replies that aren't about 7 lines long. On an Android cell phone, the avatar is tiny in the small header above each reply.

I've disabled avatars, but that just replaced them with a blank head that still wastes space. Is there another setting that I'm missing? Thanks

Thanks. I gave that a shot, but the font size is a bit large (system settings have large font turned off) and the side margins are rather thick, so there's even less overall text than the website version with the large avatars.

I haven't taken the time to figure out how to include photos in posts, but if screenshots would help, I can certainly do so.

As an example of the inefficient space utilization, I'm reading the JetBlue 60 orders thread, and my 5.5" LG G5 and the iPad mini (Tapatalk or browser) both show the same blocks of text on screen.

Thanks

Only an issue when there are less than three lines of text in a post, and even with less I really don’t think that it is a big issue. And I am on ipad and iphone 99% of the time.

But, if you want to deactivate avatars, and signatures go here

ucp.php?i=ucp_prefs&mode=view

Edit: only removes the image, not the space, sorry

Thanks. I guess in addition to the 3 lines thing, it's the horizontal space waste that really makes reading less efficient than optimal. The amount of finger distance traveled on the iPad screen, for a given thread, is significantly more than on a phone. Not the end of the world, but at least for me it's faster and less cumbersome to read on my cell phone.
