New Forum Suggestions

Tue Apr 03, 2018 3:13 am

I know there is an Off Topic forum and a Technical forum, but sometimes some of these topics don't belong in either. The dreaded "what if".

Would it be to much of a hassle to make either a new "Aviation What-If" forum or maybe just a sub-forum of the technical forum.

It would eliminate some of the angst that is certainly bugging the veterans here. Is this a crazy idea?

If there are any new forums created it should be one for all politics and religion discussions in order eliminate most of the hate in the Non-Aviation threads and some in the Civil Aviation threads. The stuff going on in a majority of the Non-Aviation threads lately is further hurting the reputation of A.net in my opinion.

While "what if" threads are a bit annoying, they don't immediately turn hateful and they don't dominate the existing forums.

A dedicated Non Aviation Politics Forum is in the works.

New forum suggestion - Airline liveries

Thu Apr 05, 2018 5:29 pm

There's been a lot of discussions lately in the Civil Aviation forum about various airline liveries. (e.g. Lufthansa, PIA etc.)

While interesting to a point, these tend to descend quickly into endless discussions going around in circles with half of the users loving the new liveries and the other half hating them. We also see a lot of ideas and talent on show from members with their own suggestions and designs.

A new forum dedicated specifically to liveries would free up the Civil Aviation forum to discuss other topics as well as aldo giving a dedicated space for members to proactively show off their ideas for airline liveries even where there isn't a new livery being planned.

What do you all think? Would this idea fly? (Pardon the pun)

We don't need a new forum for that. There's already the "Travel, polls & Preferences" forum where such threads really belong, IMHO.

Fair point. Makes perfect sense.
However I thank that we need to be more consistent with what goes where.
For example: An initial announcement that an airline will change livery probably does belong in Civil Aviation, especially when connected with a general refresh of corporate identity or strategy. But the resulting (seemingly endless) discussions about why a particular livery is good or bad, and suggestions for alternatives really belong under "preferences" as they don't contribute anything to anyone's better knowledge or understanding of the industry. These discussions are simply about people shouting out their preferences.
