Photo Sizes

Sun Feb 11, 2018 5:20 am

I raised this a few years ago, got little response or interest so will try again.

Is there any consideration being given to making photos bigger? even the "large" view, is only a fraction of my screen size. Medium is like a icon lol.

I used to scroll through looking at pictures but have largely given up as the size is now just too small for modern screens. Laptop, desktop inclusive. Personal and work screens.

Not sure what you mean, but we allow sizes up to 1920x1080. Nowadays a lot of photos are 1400-1600px or higher in width. When you view the large size, it's the original size the photographer has uploaded.

And if you want photographers to upload at a higher res, it would be a good idea to get rid of the 1 MB file size limit :).

There is no 1MB size limit anymore. That got removed together with the new size limits.

Thanks, I had no idea that changed.
Can I re-upload higher res versions of photos that already got accepted?

The biggest I can find is 1200. Do you have an example of one at 1920?

Some uploaders also use 1600px as their standard nowadays (I'm one of them), so it really depends on where you look. But keep in mind that the bigger the size, the bigger the chance of a stolen image, which is off-putting for any photographer. This is the main reason why not everyone uses large sizes. But from screening experience, I know of a couple of users who mostly upload 1600px.

However here's a recent one that is 1920px wide:
