Is there a new policy regarding handles?

Thu Oct 05, 2017 12:55 am

I have chosen not to reveal my real name anywhere on the internet unless it is necessary. The internet is not a secure place, enough said.

Last week I was prevented from signing in for four days because my signin required my name instead of my handle as it used to be. After this was all sorted out I was able to log in last night using the name I used when I created the account: "Mister brown", which is not my real name.

Today I engaged in a discussion where I was quoted by another poster and instead of the usual "Salttee said........." header, what was put into the thread was "Mister brown said........".

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1374939&p=19864669#p19864609

Why has this change been made, is there a way to opt out?

I'd imagine it said MisterBrown because it was quoting a post made by the MisterBrown account rather than the saltee one.
What's the airliners.net policy on individuals holding multiple accounts?

I only have one account, the handle is salttee, the person who opened the account was given as mister brown at the time I opened the account.

That misterbrown quoted your post, and you've quoted his. I can't see any in the multiple quoted posts where that name has come up as yours. (Which is what I think you're trying to get at based on OP)
I think you've maybe confused the multiple person quotes somewhere and come up with your own Mister Brown sign up name and that other similar account as being one & the same in the quote ie 2+2=5
(or someone has screwed up their tags when editing down/tidying up the quotes from multiple posters in the reply).
Both options easily done.

This gets curiouser and curiouser. Everything has been fine until last week when my computer died and i had to revert to my laptop. When I tried to log in on the laptop using my handle and password airlines.net would give me an "invalid credentials" message. Finally I got a.net support to help me and they told me to use "misterbrown" instead of salttee as I have been using for the last year. I believe I invented Mr. Brown when I created the account because I didn't see any reason to use my real name. So ever since I changed computers I have to use misterbrown (no space) as my username.

I was shocked when I clicked the link you came up with (memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=441499). There is an account for Mr. Brown and the only post he has made is the one I made under the handle "salttee".

I believe Airliners.net's data base is scrambled and it became scrambled sometime last week.

This will be an interesting bug for tech support. Do I need to E-mail them or will it be picked up off this thread?

Hmmm well I'm not really sure what's going on with the account, but there is no new policy that I am aware of. Contact support@airliners.net. They should be able to sort this out for you and close down the MisterBrown account.
