Bring Back the Flags that Signify Nationality
One of the nice aspects of Airliners.net is that it's a forum with an international scope. Previously forum members could identify themselves by their nationality, but that is no longer the case. This, in turn, has created a more generic forum which, sadly, has lost a dash of its international flavor. It's time to bring back the flags that signified the nationality of members. It could be an option, and those that wish to, should be able to opt out. The more international flavor on Airliners.net, the better.

Flags can have both positive and negative aspects. While they certainly do add to the international flavour, some members have chosen avatars that are suggestive of where they are from. Others have screen/user names that give a hint.
One thing that was noticeable in the past is that sometimes members would make assumptions about others based on the flag displayed. For example, a member with a Saudi flag would be held accountable for whatever happened in that country. In some threads, posters were told to butt out because they were not from the US, for example.
And there was the fact that the flag displayed might be misleading or confusing: Was it merely chosen at random to hide a person's identity, does it represent where the person was born, is it where they currently reside or an indication of political support for a particular country? At one time there was a surprising number of members from Afghanistan.
