Some ads hijacking iOS browser?

Sat Apr 08, 2017 5:44 pm

A couple of times in the past week, when visiting a.net on my iPhone, an ad seems to have tried hijacking my mobile Safari browser, forwarding me to some other page and bringing up a pop-up wanting me to click a button to clear it.

I just kill the browser session and start over, but still. It makes me wary of visiting this site. Stuff like this has happened on a.net before (both the old site and new). I figure it's a.net related simply because it doesn't happen on any other website I visit with my phone.

Anyone else experience something similar recently?

I see this link take over my browser when viewing the forum (converted from base64 to UTF-8):

<!DOCTYPE html><html><head><meta charset="UTF-8"/><script type="application/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js"></script><script type="application/javascript" src="http://ftlabs.github.io/fastclick/lib/fastclick.js"></script><title></title> <style>#main,#popup{background: rgba(255, 255, 255, 255)}body{font-family: "Helvetica Neue";}#main{margin: 0 auto; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: fixed; top: 0; right: 0}#overlay,#popup,.button-holder{position: absolute}#overlay{background: #999999; top: 0; left: 0; right: 0; bottom: 0}#popup{width: 322px; height: 115px; z-index: 10; border-radius: 8px; text-align: center; box-sizing: border-box; left: 50%; top: 50%; margin: -64px 0 0 -162px; font-size: 14px; box-shadow: 10px 7px 7px -1px rgba(117,115,117,0.54);}#popup p{margin: 10; padding: 0; text-align: left; color: #545454;}#popup .msg p{margin: 0; padding: 27px; line-height: 22px; font-size: 17px;}#popup .button-holder a{color: #006AFA; text-decoration: none; line-height: 50px; display: block; border-top: 1px solid #efefef; font-size: 17px; text-align: right;}#popup .two-button a{width: 100%; float: left; box-sizing: border-box}#popup .two-button a:first-child{/*border-right: 1px solid #efefef*/}.button-holder{width: 100%; bottom: 0}</style> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, minimum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no, minimal-ui"> <div id="main"> <div id="overlay"></div><div id="popup"> <div class="msg"> <p>Open in "App Store"?</p></div><div class="button-holder two-button"> <a>Cancel&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<b>Open</b>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</a> <div style="clear: both"></div></div></div></div><script type="application/javascript">$(document).ready(function(){var executed=false; $(function(){FastClick.attach(document.body);}); document.addEventListener('click', function(e){if (!executed){window.open("http://vumhd.voluumtrk2.com/f85d7dcc-d8b8-44dd-ac78-99cbdce1d93e?aff_sub2=6a169fca-ae76-4b5a-8bb0-bf6c71c89751_1491735000&aff_sub3=MEDIAMATH-PR&aff_sub4=300x250&domain=t-shirtforums.com&domain_id=64f966bdbb71454a8b4dd29e9a795bd3&aff_sub6=t-shirtforums.com&campaign_country=US"); setTimeout(function(){window.history.back();}, 3000); executed=true;}window.ontouchmove=null;}, false); window.ontouchmove=preventDefault; setTimeout(function(){window.ontouchmove=null;}, 15000);});function preventDefault(e){e=e || window.event; if (e.preventDefault) e.preventDefault(); e.returnValue=false;};</script></body></html>

The page that pops up is designed to look like the iOS prompt when a website links to the Apple App Store. Clicking cancel still results in being redirected to an advertisers page. Very sleazy.

Actually it's not an a.net thing. I've had this experience on other sites before. You might want to try out Refine, a popup blocker app for iOS. Works wonders for me.

Can you guys try to grab a screenshot or the link next time it happens and get me the device info and software version?

Thanks,

Ironically my ios was hijacked by one of these ads when I was looking for a thread about this. I keep trying to keep an eye for the offending add but when I forget is when it happens.

It has happened to me several times today (like over half a dozen.)

I will try to get a screen shot. I have also had this happen elsewhere.

I am going to try the one users' suggestion for refine.

Wow. It just happened four times in that many minutes.

I haven't caught which ad does it but here is where it goes:

Well I do not know how to upload a pic yet. :/

But the ad takes you to

Thanks,

If you can get the full URL or a screenshot that would help me block it.

Here is some info on how to upload pics:

Had three today that were all borderline pornographic in nature. Unfortunately I'm done with airliners until this is 100% resolved with zero exceptions.

If VS had to pull down all adds temporarily to fix this, then so be it

I'm getting these as well, although all the page hijacks I've seen claimed I had won a prize and I was prompted to click a button to retrieve the prize. I just been closing the page. Safari on iOS 10.2.1.

As soon as I posted that last one I had a barrage of ads
BUT
After getting one that was X-rated (final straw) I went to a tech website and they said delete chrome and reinstall and if that didn't work to quit the site.
.
.
.
IT WORKS
Been 2 full days.

X-rated? Sounds really odd and totally unacceptable.
And when reporting ads, always attach a screenshot, and the link and send it to support(at)airliners.net.
Clicking the link itself will not re-produce what you experienced so a screenshot is essential.
