Forum Quality Issue(s)

Thu Nov 24, 2016 7:26 am

Hello All:

I have been posting on this site since December 2007, and a lurker since April of 2002. I have learned A LOT from the members on this site, and met some great friends. I am fairly certain that airliners.net has STOPPED charging for its membership and to me that's an issue.. Since this "new" site has formed, and you didn't have to pay for membership, I have noticed bots and weird questions asked by the same person under different user names.. With all of that being said what can be done to help keep the quality of these forums? If the media and the higher ups in the airline industry lurk these forums, isn't it only fair to keep a high quality and perhaps charge for membership or any other way of keeping these trolls at bay?

What kind of bots? You mean Google- and Bing-bots that scan the forums? Or do you mean spambots that post weird messages? Could you please provide a few of those "Same question" from different users, and we'll lokk into it.
The 25USD fee didn't stop the Trolls, and unfortunately spammers used stolen paypal accounts so that dind't really help, just created a ton of administration for us.

The important thing here is advertising revenue. How do we get more traffic to the site? The more people you have browsing the forums and the website the more advertising is being seen and clicked. Having the forums open to anyone with a pulse is necessary to maintain the high demands of return for the company.
