Presenting Table Data in HTML ?

Sun Oct 16, 2016 5:53 am

Is there any way to post a table of data in a forum so that there are neat columns of data? For a very simple table in HTML the coding might be:

<Table>
<tr><td>American</td><td>July</td><td>11,347,524</td></tr>
<tr><td>Delta</td><td>July</td><td>12,496,725</td></tr>
<tr><td>Southwest</td><td>July</td><td>13,679,154</td></tr>
</Table>

And should display as:

American..............July..........11,347,524
Delta....................July..........12,496,725
Southwest............July..........13,679,154

but more neatly aligned and without all the ...................... for spacing.

Thanks for any feedback.

faq.php#f3r0 says:

Can I use HTML?
No. It is not possible to post HTML on this board and have it rendered as HTML. Most formatting which can be carried out using HTML can be applied using BBCode instead.

So your syntax is not going to work.

And:

What is BBCode?
BBCode is a special implementation of HTML, offering great formatting control on particular objects in a post. The use of BBCode is granted by the administrator, but it can also be disabled on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML, but tags are enclosed in square brackets [ and ] rather than < and >. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page.

The guide mentioned is actually at faq.php?mode=bbcode and from what I see it cannot be accessed from the posting page.

If you read through it, it never mentions a table format, apparently none comes with the "bog standard" phpBB system that is in use.

Googling for "phpbb bbcode table" gets me to https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=1151165 which shows it's not hard for the forum administrator to add some custom bbcode mappings so basic tables can be created.

So, two things need to be added to that every expanding to-do list:
1) Support table bbcode in our version of phpBB
2) Include a pointer to the posting help from the posting page.

And as per a recent thread:
3) Please restore the 'classic' a.net smilies, they are definitely missed.
