Hover over of airline and airport codes?

Sat Jul 09, 2016 8:14 pm

Am I missing something?

They aren't working for me in my google chrome browser.

As a 15 year member, I know quite a bit of them, but I enjoy learning new ones all the time.

Is there a setting I can fix?

It's currently not enabled, but may return when we have the new forum layout. No guarantees, but I will ask.

I noticed that on messages from before the switchover that have airport and airline codes, it still works when you hover over the code.

I was wondering as well. I know a lot of them, but when I first started hanging out here, that feature was a God-send! Please bring it back!

I'm not sure exactly how the backend function worked on the old forum, but I believe they basically had a script table that detected airline and airport codes and wrapped an <acronym> tag around the code that created the highlight.

That's why the codes carried over from the old forums, they were embedded within the posts themselves.

I'm sure the development team could add something similar to the new forum, but it would probably take a bit to make it work just right.

Anyone know if I this will ever get fixed?

In the meantime, what's a good place for a cheat sheet?

I've started using Google for the ones I don't know. I hope they eventually bring back the hover function too, as its impossible to memorize every airline and airport code!

I've was using this site to check ones that hadn't made it into the previous system's database:
http://www.avcodes.co.uk/aptcodesearch.asp

Think of it now as a learning exercise!

The developers were working on it. They were set to put out an update that included this function about six months ago, but it seems there were some issues. I haven't heard anything since, but hopefully someone with a little more knowledge on that stuff can chime in. As moderators, we aren't always up-to-date on development stuff. It is in the works, and it is on their to do list, so hopefully it'll come along soon.

AFAIK it's currently not being worked on. Some photo-related things are up next, with editor tools scheduled after that. Sometimes updates get prioritized differently quite quick, but since the mouse-over is quite a big task, it's likely not going to be scheduled in between other items.

And people wonder why this site keeps dying and dying... Ugh... It's a reasonable update that shouldn't take a "decent" developer long to complete at all. This is coming from someone who does it for a living.

Unfortunately we don't have a big developer team, so we need to prioritize. But if anyone with the knowledge and free time is able to provide the code for this feature, I'd be more than happy to pass it along.

As many other members I agree that this option is needed. I also understand that the developers must prioritize suggestions for new options. Some time ago I learned from another member how to easily search for airport and airliner codes. I use that always. In the Google search bar of your browser fill in such as: tk airline or ams airport. This works for me.
