Original A.net Smilies Here

Thu Jun 23, 2016 3:35 pm

For anyone wishing to use the original smilies in their posts, now you can...for as long as they remain hosted. (Was not against the terms of the hosting site.)

To utilize, simply right-click a smilie, select "Copy" (in Internet Explorer) or "Copy Image Location" (in Firefox) to capture the smilie link. Then in your reply, insert it the same way you would insert an image: Place the cursor where you want the smilie to appear, click the "Insert Image" button above the posting window, right-click between the "IMG" "/IMG" tags that appear, and select "Paste". There are two small catches though:

1) They will not appear "inline" within a paragraph or another smilie, but on an individual line like all other images.
2) For some strange reason, the smilie "Old" (having beard with shaky cane, waving finger) was consistently blocked from being uploaded, so at this time it is not included in the list.

Enjoy!

Thanks for this! I use the smilies to enhance my trip reports and the new ones are... well... rubbish.

Is this just a temporary workaround, and do you plan to add to the selection or are the new ones permanent?

As far as I know, phpBB *does* have the ability to add custom emojis, but that would be up to the web team to add the old A.net emojis into the mix.

I used the old smilies but I have to now look them up, and they a bit unstable to use it seems. It would be great if they could be added to the new site. I've never used the new ones, do not like them at all.

I am sure it could be done.. maybe create new ones, to look like the old ones..

Clearly the mods don't have the ability to change the phpBB code, that needs to come from DM's development team.
