Every time I try to get into the A.net Chat page, the Java applet window remains grey and an error message comes up on the botton of my browser window (I use Windows 98 on an Intel Celeron PC).
Is anyone else noticing the same thing? Is this related in any way to what jim1126's recent posting about the fact that, like me, he can't get in?
Is it a bug in the server or is there a way I can fix this on my PC?

Try to use mIRC. I spend 30 minutes trying to figure it out how to use mIRC. Of course, you need to download it.

In case you don't know how to add servers, Webnet under the mIRC server list will work as well.

Fred: Unfortunately, I don't think there is any other way to join the chatroom without downloading mIRC. You will just have to wait for everything to be fixed. Let's not forget one of my favorite quotes, "patience is our friend."
Here's some instructions for those of you who need to set up mIRC.
After you finish downloading it, open up the program and wait for the Options screen to come up. On some mIRC, there is a window with the author's photo, just close it. Once you have it opened, find where it says Full Name and Email Address, type in anything there. Where it says Nickname, you will have to type in your nickname, for example Delta757. Where it says Alternative you will need to type a backup nickname such as Delta767. Oh, and don't forget to choose Webnet from the IRC Servers list. If it's not there, just click on Add and fill it in like below.
Description: Airliners.net
IRC Server: chat.planetz.net
Port: 6667
Group: Airliners.net
Leave the Password field blank, then click Add and wa-la!
That is pretty much it, you don't need to worry about the other settings until later. Now hit the button that says Connect to IRC Server and wait for the flood of text to stop (also known as the MOTD).
After the text has stopped, type /join #aviation and welcome to Airliners.net chat, enjoy your stay.

BTW guys, if there is ever a problem again with the chat applet here, and you don't want to download mIRC, go to http://www.quickchat.org and click Op Now! form the menu on left. Enter aviation as the channel (without the #), type in a nick, and there you are.
