The correct Motown song

Sat Feb 02, 2019 8:12 am

used to be "Tears of a Clown." I still really like the opening hook; however I've listened a bit more carefully to the rest of the song and I find it to be genuinely Meh.

"It's a Shame" - The Spinners.
"The Night" - Frankie Valli.

These are the only two logical choices for best Motown song.

Wow, just one? That's hard, can't do it. I'll list three for starters. In no particular order
Tracks of My Tears - Smokey Robinson
Stop in the Name of Love - Supremes
My Girl - Temptations

How about all of them?

If I had to chose any single one I'd go for
Jackson Five - I Want You Back, followed closely by I'll Be There!

WHAT on EARTH would make you think that those untalented abominations called Boney M were Motown artists?! They were a German produced fake show, just like Milli Vanilli (same producer even).

Tears of a Clown or Superstition. I lovet the orchestration in the first (the bassoon and then piccolo), and that stunning clavinet riff in the latter.

Superstition is maybe the all-time greatest, but technically it wasn't Motown. Stevie was on Tamla Records, it was owned by Motown so it counts in my book. Reason I didn't list it is because of that technicality.
Interesting trivia - Jeff Beck helped Stevie write it. Their rendition of it at the 25th anniversary show of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is fantastic

Mine is "I second that emotion"... Tears is a bit contrived, IMHO.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world

Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
The heart has its seasons, its evenings and songs of its own
