Super Bowl!!!!!

Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:01 pm

Come on where are out football fans!

Hard to predict this one but one thing is sure the Pats will be in at the end. This game could come down to a blown call or missed FG.

What say you?

Roger Goodell's take on it was an embarrassment and basically tells us the league is not going to do anything to improve the officiating. It's sad.

As for the game I think the first quarter will be very little scoring as LA's D steps up and Goff chokes but then the game will open up. I fell the winner will score 28-32 points and the loser will be close.

I honestly can't think of a more moronic sport (sorry guys) but I will tune in if I see news that LA is about to win it just on the off chance I get to see Gazelle Bundtcakes crying for Tom in the Pat's executive box. Oh man, that would give me great pleasure. Seeing Tom cry would be the jackpot..and the two of them crying together would be almost too much to handle. I'd have to take Monday off and just watch YT re-runs.

Anyway, my prediction is that over the full 5 hours of this tedious stop and start rubbish there will be approximately 29 minutes of actual athletic sport conducted.

As somebody who was absolutely obsessed with the Rams growing up (born in the early ‘80s, grew up in Orange County), I’ve never gotten over my heartbreak from the move to St. Louis. So, as a Michigan man (Go Blue), I’ll be rooting for Tom Brady.

But if there’s a parade, I’ll be there :).

As someone who likes the Cowboys I'll be watching for the commercials and the occasional outstanding play.

As for hopes: I'd love to see the Rams win. A historic team that has gone through rough times. I'd like to see them win this one.

Oh for cripe sakes. The refs killed a Rams drive on the one by not calling a facemask penalty. There was no guarantee they would score, nor was there a guarantee the Saints would score.

Anywho...

I freakin hate the Patriots. I don’t care much for the Rams either. A small part of me wants the Patriots to win on the hope that cheating asshat Brady will retire and the Hoodie will have little atrial fib afterward and decide he also needs to retire. I’m cheering for the commercials this year.

The Pats Play mistake free football and always hang in the game. I do think the Rams can do it but it will take a huge effort. I am pulling for LA. I was in LA when they won the NFC champ game and it was awesome to see the people so happy.

And Romo is one of the people calling the game, didn't like him as a QB, but he is one of the best play by play announcers in any sports.

And I am praying for the Rams.

Bears fan here - still hurting from "the doink"
Don't have a dog in this fight so just watching to see if I win a quarter on the office pool (squares). I've got crappy numbers but a missed extra point here or a two point conversion there and suddenly they may look good.
I think the Rams win it - Pats defense won't be able to stop them and I think the Rams D may be 'just good enough" to eek one out - sort of like the Eagles last year

I am so happy knowing that both Joe Buck and Bob Costas are reducing their roles in sports. I weeped so many tears of joy that I looked like Bob Costas those days he had pink eye providing commentary for the Sochi Olympics.

Great movie and yes he sucks so bad. I don't know he he stays employed in TV. It will be nice to not have to endure him during a great day like the Super Bowl.

I am sure Bears would have been a bigger draw than the Rams but the Pats brings people to the TV. I gave up on the half time show a long time ago and use the half to go outside for some air. Post a vid of your cat!

The last NFL game I watched was last year's Super Bowl, and before that it was probably the Super Bowl before that.

The NFL lost its luster for me about 10 or so years ago. It was about the time my oldest was playing various sports, and Sunday was the day. But, there was probably more to it.

Now, I'll watch college ball all day long. Really doesn't matter what team, so long as it's a decent game. I'm partial to The Kentucky Wildcats...in the interest of domestic harmony.

Maybe I just like to watch the "kids" play.

The NFL's Super Bowl is still the biggest live event in the USA in terms of viewers and money and will continue to be for years, especially with the expansion of legalized sports betting. In the long run, its viewers numbers will flatten out due to several factors including the increasing reality of CTE reducing the numbers of persons playing in the lower levels, fewer able to afford going to live games, politics, uneven quality of play and officiating.

This year's SB has its usual share and more of issues. The bad call in the NO/LA game that continues to cause anger by some fans. The halftime show has seen this year a lot of pressure on and decisions by Black persons not to perform at the Halftime show due to the NFL's attitude toward Black players who protested during the National Anthem and the shunning of Colin Kapernick from ever playing over it. The SB is not as big of a show for advertisers as it was as it has become too expensive for many of the ad buyers, shifts to more bang for the buck advertising and marketing on the Internet, and fewer original ads that no one really wants to see.
There is also the problem that too many SB's have become bore fests, end too late for many in the East and Midwest who have to be at work the next day and most losing their bets. I would like to see the regular season have 1 fewer games, the season end sooner, the SB occur within January.
As I noted in a previous post my heart will be with LA, but my money would be with NE.

Agree 100% - and his booth mate Aikman has really gone downhill lately as well. In the pre-game intros, he's looking like five miles of bad road. Almost starting to look like a younger version of John Madden. Half the time it looks like neither one shaved for two days. Can't tell if it's a feeble attempt by both to grow beards or if they were on an all night bender and couldn't get back to their hotel room to shave before the broadcast

I also agree with the Romo comment - can't stand the freakin' Cowboys but he's a great analyst, almost certainly the best one currently on the air

Super Bowl Sunday is not just a sporting event, but also a celebration of American culture and heritage in sports, entertainment, and big business, much like Cinco De Mayo for Mexico, and St Patricks for Ireland.

Not really. Cinco de Mayo was a battle by Mexican farmers against the French, IIRC. It is celebrated full throttle all across the United States, even in MAGA territory. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated full throttle with green beer and even green rivers in some parts of the United States.

Yes, it is an unofficial holiday in the US - parties all over the place for sure. And a lot of people take a vacation day on the Monday after to recover.
The game itself is only a small part of the day's festivities. Yes, it's the reason for all the parties, but at lots of those parties, a good number of attendees can't even tell you who's playing, let alone what the score is.

Lo, the many years ago I was at EAL, Super Bowl Sunday was the highest sick call day of the year, so presumably was Monday. One captain I flew with lamented, “we’re supposed to be professionals and this”.

Super Bowl Saturday? Blasphemy!

It's so much better in a casino town too. It's so electric and exciting to see fans with their garb etc. Took my budd who throws the party I attend to the store to stock up. It's so awesome!

Ok prediction and check in time. I am heading to the party I go to every year. I think this game will be close. If Goff can handle the pressure and Suh and his D can pressure Brady it will be a 2 min game at the end of the 4th quarter. In my heart I want Rams just because nobody has been able to beat the Pats. except of course Big Blue. :duck:

Oh yea Eagles and Pack too. :whistleblower:

Game sucked.
Halftime sucked. (Adam Levine needs to lay off his helium addiction)
Commercials sucked.

I didnt need to watch anything to know this. I was following the game on Google at work and was disappointed. This Texans fan would rather the Cowboys win over the Patriots, but I ultimately wanted a Chiefs/Saints game. That would've been great football.
When wasn't America great?

Got to agree on Chiefs/Saints. This game was just sad. It was like the two worst teams in football made it to the big show. What was it, 9 back to back punts at one point?
