The Correct Behavior

Fri Dec 07, 2018 1:35 pm

in a forum setting has not been on display in this forum recently. The decorum put on display has been disgusting. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. Can't believe I'm even writing that.

I can’t say I’ve noticed to be honest. Can you show some examples? Have you highlighted the poor behaviours to the moderators?

Nor have I, but in fairness I rarely read the purely political threads.

Only thing to do, really.

Yes, please. If they are under investigation, perhaps just the quote without who said it?

A lot of it gets deleted.

If you have trouble finding examples, go look at a locked thread. Civility seems to disappear after a while.

Oh yeah, such is the way of the internet when you have the dangerous combination of:
A. Discussions of subjects about which people have passionate beliefs
B. "Keyboard Warriors" who wouldn't say "Dookie" if they had a mouthful in real life but who get to live out all their wildest sarcastic action-hero fantasies online
C. Trolls with no dog in the fight egging everyone on just to see who loses their cool first.

My only advice for dealing with it is to do what I do when things get heated: Take a step back, take a deep breath, grab a bag of popcorn, and watch the mock drama unfold.

Also, I find it helps cool me down and even occasionally gives me a chuckle if I imagine abrasive posts, and ALL posts from routinely abrasive posters, being read aloud by whatever cartoon character makes the post or poster sound the most ridiculous. If you don't take to that concept immediately, as a practice run imagine anything I've written being spoken aloud by Foghorn Leghorn. Totally fits, doesn't it? :D

It is pleasant as long as you’re left wing, anti Trump, pro uncontrolled immigration, anti brexit, anti Airbus, anti British.

I've been made fun of my weight by 2 notoriously asshole-ish a.net users in the Civil Av forum (and lost 30 lbs since then so they can suck it), as well as seen many threads across the forums go downhill very quickly. Civility and politeness has all but disappeared from a.net; but I have noticed at least a slight increase in them in real life. But long gone are the days of, "I don't agree with what you say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."
