College Football Rivalry Games

Sun Nov 04, 2018 6:03 pm

I think I asked this question several years ago. With new members, I feel I should ask again.

The annual game between Oregon State and University of Oregon is called "Civil War"
The annual game between Washington State and University of Washington is called "Apple Cup"
The annual game between Stanford and Cal-Berkeley is called "The Big Game"

I don't know the rest of the Pac 12 rivalry names nor any other. I think one in Mississippi or Louisiana has the name "swamp" in it. Anyone have any other names?
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

Sam Houston State University, my alma mater, has the Battle of the Piney Woods against our rival, Steven F. Austin.

And we won this year (again ;) )!

The annual game between Arizona and Arizona State is the Territorial Cup game.
Surprised that the UCLA-USC game doesn't have a name...but they play for the victory bell.
Ole Miss - Mississipi State =Egg Bowl
Auburn - Alabama = Iron Bowl
Northern Michigan - Michigan Tech is the Battle for the Miner's Cup.

A few rivalry games died due to teams changing conferences, one such would be Texas-Texas A&M.

WVU vs. Pitt is known as the Backyard Brawl. (They're 70 miles apart.)
Ohio State vs. Michigan is unofficially referred to as simply "The Game"
The Texas vs. Oklahoma game is known as the "Red River Rivalry/Showdown"

University of Idaho/Boise State I don't think happens anymore.

Do you know the most common thing for a BSU grad to say to a UI grad? You want fries with that? :duck:

I watched the OU Texas Tech game yesterday and believe TT has earned the right to have that rivalry listed.

I continue to refer to it as the Red River Shootout. Always seemed more Old West to me. I get why they changed it, but it just seems more appropriate for two teams from the mythical land of the cowboy and outlaws.
Restoring Penn State's transportation heritage...

The interstate rivalry between Oklahoma State University (the real OSU  ) and OU is called "Bedlam"

Georgia Tech vs. u[sic]ga :duck: : "Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate". (Although it doesn't matter, since Tech is probably going to lose again this year :cry2: ).
Not affiliated with either, but "Border War" = Mizzou vs. Kansas.

Yep. It'll still be Red River Shootout to me. It's Big 12 aka Defense? Is that even an English word? :scratchchin:
