RANDOM THOUGHT: nurse Violet Jessop-- unsinkable survivor!

Sat Nov 03, 2018 10:52 pm

As many of you know, the Titanic was the middle-child in a set of triplets:
It had two identical sister-ships, Olympic and Britannic (nee Gigantic) and each of them were beset with their own tragedies.

  • First, Olympic collided with a navy destroyer, and while badly damaged, it did manage to maintain its integrity.
  • Then, Titanic............... well, ya know.
  • Lastly, Britannic hit a mine-field off the coast of Greece, and quickly sank.

All three occurrences had one peculiar factor in common:
A nurse named Violet Jessop was working aboard each ship at the time of its destruction, and managed to survive all three.

And what did she do immediately after surviving the third incident?
Apply and get hired as a nurse for a shipping line.

.....I guess they figured she'd stick around.

They didn't figure she was just looking for another ship to sink?
Pancakes are delicious.

There was one other person to survive all 3 Olympic-class incidents: stoker Arthur John Priest. But the poor guy was involved in more collisions than Violet Jessop.

Just seemed to be a tragic legacy for anything associated with those ships.

Worth noting that Carpathia, the ship that rescued the Titanic survivors, herself later was sunk. :(

And the stock market crash of '29 hit Caledon Hockley's interests hard. He put a pistol in his mouth that year, or so I read.

The actual quote is a tad longer. The movie shortened it.
