Yes, that tax cut for the wealthy is certainly working well. Of course we have the mystical promise of another for us, the Peasants.

Well, I worked flawless. They bought shares with money Trump and his henchmen put on Joe Averages children's credit card, and since they don't care about pensions, they can now cash in.
The GOP has pretty much concluded its one Trillion US$ heist.

I’ve been happy with the trades I’ve made over the last several years, made a boatload of money, still some good buys out there

Um, pretty sure the only way to be wealthy is to shop at Costco. The stock market is for suckers.

European and Asian stocks had dropped before, in part because of money going back to the US to try and prevent this. It happened anyway, so now what ?

The French CAC40 is back at early 2017 levels. The stock of my employer (that I hold and can't sell) is down 35% because of a small, not very alarming, profit warning. Any bad news or even "less good news" leads to a drop.

Comments like this are why this site needs a like button. And am I the only one (really my wife) who spends a ton of money on stuff at Costco on stuff that is nice to have, but I don't really feel we need?

That same article cites several analysts saying they are seeing indications to buy, not sell now. And they predict the S&P 500 will close at or above 3000 by year end.

“We strongly reiterate our view that this sell-off is ending, not starting,” he said. “[H]ence, we are buying this dip.”

Lee’s not alone with this sentiment.

“We think the market is currently oversold on fears of trade, the euro, rising rates and uncertainty over midterm elections,” Argus Research’s John Eade said to Yahoo Finance. “How oversold? The VIX (^VIX) has more than doubled in the past month. This has happened multiple times during the bull market — each time, it has been a buying signal.”

“There are a lot of negative factors that are likely to be resolved and a lot of positive factors that are likely to kick in,” Commonwealth Financial Network’s Brad McMillan said.

Eade and McMillon see the S&P closing at 3,000 by year end. Lee sees the index hitting 3,025.

i suppose you think the 17% bump to our national debt resulting from Trump tax cut to the wealthy, has nothing at all to do with our economy,
or the stock market decline.

Looks like to entire Trump-induced stock market bubble is deflating. Would not be surprised to see the S&P500 back at 2250 and change (when Trump was sworn in).
Meaning, all gains from 2017 will be gone too.

The Dow went up about 50 % in the first two years of Obama.
The Dow went up about 25 % in the first two years of Trump.

And a majority of the companies are roughly meeting or exceeding estimates. What's the excuse for the pullback? Not profit taking, that's for sure.

I'll never understand people who complain about the economy under a president, and then a moment later hope it completely tanks just so they can win some political points. re: bill maher for instance.

It's the, everyone has to suffer so I can get the people I want in power, people that annoy me.

Irony falls flat these days. But I don't expect conservatives to see it. After all, deficits don't matter now, but a few years ago they were all they could talk about.

For Trump and all other billionaires crashes like 2008 are a massive windfall. They get to screw the base even harder than they do during the good times. Like most of his .01% brethren, the jackass pays little to zero in taxes and somehow then gets the core base of 25% dumbshits living on the edge of poverty to perpetuate the system they created for themselves. They walk around thinking "I'm winning" when in reality they're being mocked and laughed at by their GOP leaders for their depraved levels of self-inflicted stupidity. Every 20 years or so the GOP pulls off a stunning money grab that's akin to the first lines of blow during a 48 coke bender. Everyone feels great, looks great and wants the party to last forever, but it never does. Monday morning comes along, the bank account is drained and we all check into the Dem Rehab Center, which is fun for no one but critical to our ultimate survival.

Good analogy that one, Trump as slick coke dealer, the GOP Party as corrupt cops and SCOTUS as bought and paid for judges. And easy to see how that core group of uneducated dimwits keep coming back for more. Just when the rehab is working and the lifestyle is getting sustainable the GOP starts flashing the little vials and the core buys into that "winning" that's all locked up in the white fairy dust. Anyway, as sad as it is we can all just kick back on the forums and watch Trump drive the train right off the ficking rails again, and this time he'll do it with Republicans in total and complete control of everything. But good news for Repub money grabbers, 20 years from now they'll have the next generation of core dumbshits eating right out their hands as it happens all over again. Like Yogi Berra explaining deja vu.

A major correction and perhaps a recession is inevitable. I’d rather have it happen now while younger folks have more time to recover on the other side.

I'm as conservative as it comes but a 461 point gain isn't much to brag about in today's market. But economy is looking good right now despite some poor earning results this quarter, mostly in the tech sector I'd add.

The economy is still running, but current indicators is that trade deficit is growing and that the rate of growth may start to slide. I'm not rooting for America to fail, but I am well-positioned for a market slump, so I am kind of hoping for that for selfish reasons.

I do love me some bargain price stocks. I'm young enough to weather many cycles so it (the market in general) doesn't really matter to me that much anyways. What matters more to me is that state of the aviation industry since that's where I, well, make my living. Things look great right now. But aviation has always seemed to be somewhat offset from the other normal economic cycles, or so I'm told.

It seems the aviation industry is one of the more difficult industries to experience a "Goldilocks" scenario. For that to happen, you need:

1) Economic growth (i.e. no recession)
2) Stable/Low oil prices

Take Southwest (Ticker: LUV) for example. One of the best run airliners in the world (IMHO). They did well during the late 80's and early 90's due to stable/low oil prices and a decent economy. Only under-performed during the late 90's when everyone was gaga about tech stocks.
Then, during the entire '00 LUV under-performed as oil went nuts from $12 to $140. However, since 2012 LUV started to outperform again as oil came of the boiler and the economy was/is doing well.

Ups and down in the market will happen. What is important is the economy is the strongest its ever been in the history of our country. Remember when Trump came in to rescue from the economy from Obamas disaster, the stock market was the lowest in its history.

Why is the market gonna give two about Trump’s income taxes?

BTW, the tax changes INCREASED your standard deduction, LOWERED marginal rates, if you’re retired, it’s hard to imagine who your taxes in 2018 went up. My IRAs are up enough, I have $100,000 more in there AND created a donor-advised fund that’s paid out $5,000 and is richer than its founding value. I’m not rich, either.

Of course I would, I was young, earning a great living, stayed at that job until retirement, married, both my children were born in that period, all my Siblings were alive, and many friends. It was a great time, except for Vietnam. That was the tragedy of our time.

Your response does not make sense, are we into race now? When the question was about economics and personal quality of life in a specific time frame. I had finished with my military obligation, life was good fo me, not so good for the two boys who I knew who died there, also not good for a friends brother who was shot down, and never came home for years after the wars end. Don't go sniping at me, you do not pick your time to live, so deal eith the fact that I prospered along with millions of others while others died and suffered as it always is in life. Deal with it like a man, not a whinner.
