So, to be clear, when this goes into effect, gate agents, campers, and even airport servers are going to be making more than first year regional first officers...

Somebody who is working full-time should always get so much money that he / she can live of it without having to fear the end of the month. Regardless of the job.

Doubtful.
At the same time....a couple years at regionals these same pilots are making bank as well.

That is not correct. Average hourly rate for first year part 121 regional FOs is $37per hour, plus considerable bonuses.

I need someone to work for me, I will offer you 5 bucks an hour, try supporting yourself on that. Bullshit is what I call.

Then, I won’t work for you, if someone else is offering $6 an hour. Employers compete for workers, too. They can’t offer less than what their competitor offers.
I always had higher expectations and possibilities obviously, you guys have low levels of expectations these days. I guess the Government and corporations have won the war. Poverty for all, except !!!

Are you going to mandate some sort of payment or tax when the low paying jobs disappear off into automation because of mandatory minimum wages being higher than the value of the job being done? Thats the future thats just around the corner - and then the government picks up 100% of the ex-employees welfare payments rather than 33% or whatever the argument is about Amazon workers and food stamps these days...
This is a very difficult area - some people seem to think that companies are there as social support structures, especially in the US where the expectation is that the company pays healthcare and other expenses as well. They aren't - they aren't there to act as "the bank of mom and dad" for the low earning, thats the states job and the state is screwing it up (as usual) in many instances.
Its quite simple - if the job is worth $20/hr to a company, they can pay $20. If its worth $10/hr, then mandating a $20/hr minimum wage will simply make them look elsewhere, and that 'elsewhere' these days is automation.
That doesn't mean people won't still complain about corporations being evil... They will simply be evil now because they are eliminating jobs that people are 'entitled' to...

I suggest you read up on mass hunger in past history and what it led to. "Read up on the Summer that never was" in the 1800's, Frankenstein was written at that time.

No jobs, guess what? No food. No food, guess what???

Odan wrote:My point is that you define free in a way that it suits your political view.
And that means that you think its OK to set people into economic traps that they will never be able to get out of.
For example you could train those people while being employed.
Odan wrote:Is it the governments job to train people? Sure. Is a company a social club? No, never argued that.
But that does not change the fact that you should be able to afford rent, health and food from your days work if you work at normal productivity. But maybe that's just me.

And here we go....... Another thread falls into a political debate.
Odan wrote:Who was talking about downtown new york? There's a reason the government pays for public transportation.
I am sorry, but for me it comes down to one thing. Either I need a service or I don't. If I need that service then I am aware that the guy providing that service has bills to pay. So assuming that you provide a local and essential service the value is by no means objective.
As I recall the last time houses were sold to low income citizens the financial system nearly collapsed. But yeah the "free" and unregulated market is always right.
