65 Years Ago: CIA and British Intelligence Overthrew Iran's Prime Minister

Mon Aug 20, 2018 8:23 am

Just came across this and I was speechless. How could something like this have gone unabated?

[Foreign Policy magazine] 64 Years Later, CIA Finally Releases Details of Iranian Coup
... "Known as Operation Ajax, the CIA plot was ultimately about oil. Western firms had for decades controlled the region’s oil wealth, whether Arabian-American Oil Company in Saudi Arabia, or the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company in Iran. When the U.S. firm in Saudi Arabia bowed to pressure in late 1950 and agreed to share oil revenues evenly with Riyadh, the British concession in Iran came under intense pressure to follow suit. But London adamantly refused.

So in early 1951, amid great popular acclaim, Mossadegh nationalized Iran’s oil industry. A fuming United Kingdom began conspiring with U.S. intelligence services to overthrow Mossadegh and restore the monarchy under the shah. (Though some in the U.S. State Department, the newly released cables show, blamed British intransigence for the tensions and sought to work with Mossadegh.)"

You must be a novice to 'the ways of western governments past & present'...

This kind of treacherous behavior goes back, way back beyond Brutus & Cicero thinking they would be better rulers than Julius Caesar.

At the time you mentioned, guess who was US President...it was Ike, Dwight Eisenhower. But although his name is on the door...the actual culprit running US foreign policy or doing the bidding of Big Oil and Big Fruit (United Fruit Co./Dole (the pineapple people) wrecking, reaping havoc across the globe with it's new founf post WWII power...was non other than the US Vice President.

Richard Milhous Nixon.

Read up Operation 54-12, after all his hard sweaty dirty work, he just KNEW flat out that once Ike's 2nd term was over...1600 Pennsylvane Ave was HIS! He had earned it!...in his mind that is.

...but along came a young, handsome dashing toothy kid name John F Kennedy. And when on the US first televised debate..

Kennedy looked like a real come-to-life Ken (of Barbie doll fame) on stage & tv screens across America VS Nixon - looking like Dick Dastardly (of criminal cartoon fame with his forever snickering pooch, Muttley)...and out of nowhere came Nixon's defeat and he felt he had been robbed, and it part was, ask Mayor Daley of Chicago - US politics have goten shittier and shittier with each election since, assassinations, murder, corporate briber, bigger money buyouts, you name. Corrupting foreign powers in pursuit of one-upmanship against the USSR (Russia) and China. So your new 'discovery' ...is one of many in a line longer than from here (Earth) to the Moon littered with the worse things humans are capable of doing to each other .. in obtaining what a select few desire.

Have been born and raised in the Chicago land area I always chuckle when I hear people either imply or outright say that Mayor Daley handed the election to JFK through the nefarious means. The truth is there was little chance that a Quaker from California was going to beat an Irish Catholic in Chicago.

And I don't blame you for a minute.

I'm certain that war hawks who were extremely comfortable with VP Nixon's war footing that the last thing they wanted was a new guy in control aka I'm certain that the number of votes stolen or withheld from JFK exceeds the questionable 100,000 they say Daley delivered. Most likely the true number that actually voted for JFK (thanks to tv) is a bigger mystery than who actually shot him.

Election theft back then was waaaaaayyyyyyyy outta control. But I just go along the 'Daley 100K' for the sake of those still feeling the sting.

You should cut the OP a break. At some point in your life it was news to you too.

Most Americans (assuming the OP is one) will not be exposed to the unsavory aspects of American foreign interventions in the course of a standard American education. So inevitably people will be surprised when they find pieces of information like this.

Despite having access to nearly the sum total of human knowledge at their fingertips, many will never dig deeper than the veneer of propaganda or will simply refuse to believe. At least the OP isn't one of them.

But we always do it for good, wholesome, patriotic, democratic reasons...except when it's a right wing dictator or someone else that we can bribe.

The biggest racket is when foreign state actors are trying the same thing to America. Suddenly, people are crying faul!
Oh, the hypocrisy ...

I like how history only began when the US got involved. As if Britain, Germany and Russia never tried to forcefully steal Persian oil.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_o ... successors

Truth is, we have spent way too much time and caused too much trouble around the world trying to clean up European neo-colonial genocides.
