Oldest tree in trouble

Sun Jul 15, 2018 10:51 am

Tāne Mahuta is a giant kauri tree (Agathis australis) in the Waipoua Forest of Northland Region, New Zealand. Its age is unknown but is estimated to be between 1,250 and 2,500 years. It is the largest kauri known to stand today.[1] Its Māori name means "Lord of the Forest" (see Tāne), from the name of a god in the Māori pantheon.

Like losing family': time may be running out for New Zealand's most sacred tree
Tāne Mahuta (Lord of the Forest) is about 2,500 years old.

But its days will be numbered if it succumbs to kauri dieback.
New Zealand’s oldest and most sacred tree stands 60 metres from death, as a fungal disease known as kauri dieback spreads unabated across the country.

Tāne Mahuta (Lord of the Forest) is a giant kauri tree located in the Waipoua forest in the north of the country, and is sacred to the Māori people, who regard it as a living ancestor.

Sad to see this New Zealand's icon go. Apparently, nothing can be done and we just have to wait.

I wonder if some typical "preacher" will preside at the funeral...

"We are all sad to see our favorite tree leave this earth, it has been a part of our lives for so many years... decades... centuries...but it is moving on to a better place...."

Probably someone's fireplace...

It's a tree. A living thing, which must eventually die.

Move on.

THIS.

It's a tree. A glorious, beautiful and old one, but a tree.

The thread title is misleading as well. It implies this is the oldest tree in the World. There are certainly olive trees that are around 3,000 years old.

These trees you speak of . they are young. Methuselah and it's neighbor in California are 5000 years old.

Maybe there’s unobtainium under it?
