Unfortunately here the radio emissions are strictly regulated.
Fines are really heavy and even having an aerial requires a permit by the Police.
I had a friend who had an amateur radio with a 10 mtrs very basic antenna, got a € 2000,- fine.
At that time we were 13 years old... we're talking about 25 years ago.
So I'll stay a listener... currently looking for a "cheap" Grundig Satellit

Seems so silly now with internet, texting, etc but you never know.
I could do 35 words per minute, the main limit was I could write no faster and I could not type.
Longest conversations were northeast USA to Australia/NZ.
Ham radio was my "gateway drug" to a long career in high tech, 30 years and still going strong.
It literally was life changing for me.
My desire to learn about radio got me to take electronics classes at high school and the teacher was incredibly good.
It got me fired up to study harder in math and physics and it lead me to degrees in electrical engineering and computer science.
These days I still have the rig from the 70s (kenwood ts-520s) and I still fire it up from time to time.
I also have a FlexRadio that I bought just because software defined radio sounded like a great thing to play with.
I don't really do too much with either these days, probably because I spend too much time on a.net!
