Given the problems with the fires in the North of England on the moors do we have any aircraft in the UK with the lift power. Currently using helicopter with a drop bag.

There is a 727 which is used for oil spill response. I wonder if it can be used in a water dumping role?

I'm not aware that we have any. Wild fires are pretty rare in the UK.
Maybe we could borrow a couple from France or Spain if they're not fully utilised at the moment.

There is the "delightful" smell of smoke when walking in the city centre (some 15 miles / 24km away) and even where I live in Chorlton (a further 3 miles / 5 kn away), there have been days when you can smell it
