Any body of water is correct to walk around and ponder. However pondering is for those that lack the ability to just jump in and swim across.

I think vik is on to something; I grew up right across the town line from Concord (the stone wall marking it was actually in my neighbor's back woods) and Walden is quite lovely.

I find that Entwistle Resevoir (between Bolton and Darwen in North West England) is the best local (to me) body of water to mooch around, weighing up the World. Good restaurant/pub on the far side too.

I like walking up and down Collins Beach on the Columbia River, west of PDX. The drive across Sauvie Island is beautiful. Local farms selling local produce and flowers, small ocean going cargo ships steaming up and down the river, views of Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. On a summer's day, it is the most peaceful place.
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

Yes, but pondering before jumping in may be the most important part of jumping in, or not. Depends on the body of water. I try to use bridges when I can. Drier that way.

While, I don't walk around this particular body of water, I do run/walk the north and south shores while using bridges on the east and west. Ohio River at Louisville.

I have the ability, but generally not the desire.

Sometimes I'll ponder my desire to swim across, and by the time I'm finished pondering, I'll have already walked around.

Can you ponder while walking around a lake, or only around a pond?

Lake Merritt isn't terribly good to walk around.

I don't even know if it's a real "Lake"(oid) or a man-made pond.

I'd imagine Lake Merritt has it's pluses and minuses:

Plus- You might encounter some people enjoying a lakeside family cookout.

Minus- You might also encounter a crazy lady desperately trying to summon the police because *gasp* "THERE ARE PEOPLE ENJOYING A LAKESIDE FAMILY COOKOUT!!! OH, THE HORROR!!!".

So Lake Merritt = Definitely a crapshoot.

I prefer Pyramid Lake in Nevada. The silence and otherworldliness of it's desert setting are highly conducive to pondering and even the occasional flight of fancy.
