The coolest unit of currency

Fri May 18, 2018 6:32 am

is the kwacha, used in Malawi.

At one point, for an indeterminate length of time, this distinction was held by the Argentian "austral" but then Argentina changed their currency to... (yawn) the peso. For what, the originality of it?

Bah.

Malawi rules.

I definitely remember using the peseta. I would never have fit a load of piñatas in my suitcase.

Coolest currency is £ sterling. No particular reason, I'm just biased.

Africa certainly have some "cool" sounding currencies, the kwacha use in Malawi and Zambia, ariary in Madagascar, lilangeni in Swaziland, just to name a few.

Not "cool", but I certainly love Vietnamese Dong, the only place in the world where I can be a (dong) millionaire easily.

You could have been a billionaire with Zimbabwe's dollar. Talk about bad monetary policy: 3 re-denominations in the span of 3 years.

My favourite name for a currency is the Macanese Pataca..i just love the sound of it.

Also on a personal/biased note, Northern Ireland banknotes, including the old plastic £5 notes (which featured a Space Shuttle orbiter) that came out long before England and Scotland joined the bandwagon with theirs ;-)
