Israel and Iran trade fire

Thu May 10, 2018 4:47 pm

I’m no military expert, but this seems like something we should be concerned about? It seems like Israel is itching to pick a fight. What exactly does Israel expect to achieve and what are the potential implications?

They expect to achieve a reason (and sympathy) for them and USA to justify an attack on/invasion of Iran
by provoking Iran do anything that could warrant a military response from USA/Israel.
Sort of "look they attacked us and we have to defend ourselves". It certainly isn't a coincident that Israel's
attack comes after Trump has decided to pull out of the Iran deal where Trumps EU-allies seems to
have decided to remain committed the Iran deal.

I'm not a fan of Israeli hardliners by any stretch, but I'd say Iran is itching just as hard. Their military is suddenly camped out on Israel's doorstep and they openly call for Israel's destruction and the extermination of all Jews. Neither government has much to like about it, but this is possibly the start of another $2T US campaign without any firm objective, zero support from any traditional allies, and quite likely massive direct "interference" by both Russia and China throughout. What for except feeding Trump's emotional retardation I don't know. If we wanted a "good" war with Iran we should've stayed in the nuclear deal and let them violate it first with hard evidence of the facts. Now and yet again we have a cadre of ultra hard right military fanatics fronted by a truly incompetent buffoon in the the White House leading us into a solo war that will cost trillions of dollars after we just slashed the tax revenue base.

It feels like deja vu all over again. I understand that history lessons don't sink in easily but for fuck's sake, Gulf War II just happened.

So Iran has missiles in Syria, fires them at Israeli targets and Israel is itching for a fight? That’s rich

Iran is in Syria by invitation of its lawful government (lawful whether you approve or not), Israel has been launching airstrikes (with American made aircraft) against the Iranian's in Syria and has been bragging about it for some weeks now.

It looks to me as if Iran is poking Israel with a stick in the hopes they do something stupid (like they did when they invaded Lebanon).
The Zionists are the aggressor and have been the aggressors in that region since the 1890s. They could have ended their aggression at any time in the last 130 years and had peace, but that is never what they wanted, including the present day: they want more land.

Why the Jewish people allow their most extreme faction to lead them into constant war and chaos is difficult to understand. The last time they did the same (131CE) didn't work out very well for them nor did the times before that. Somewhere in the Jewish psyche there must be a death wish. One would think modernity would nullify the old testament goofiness, but it doesn't seem to be working out that way.

Why would Iranian forces need to be near the Israeli border?

I've been wondering why is Russia turning a blind eye to all of it, they are in charge of the airspace? Netenyahu just went to Moscow last week, they had to have agreed on this. I think the the Russians would rather deal with Jews than Persians.

Of the Iranian government is so peaceful wishes for good relations with other countries they should pull their forces out of Iraq, Syria and Yemen and withdraw their support for Hezbollah. Ending their chants "of death to Israel and the United States" would help too.

Which tells us what we already know. You have a child like knowledge of international politics.

Here's some homework for you kid:
If Russia is there to shore up the Assad government, why do you think Russia wants to shore up the Assad government?

Who wants to help Russia shore up the Assad government?
Who wants to eliminate Assad?

therefore:

Who's interests coincide with Russia's interests?
Who's interests are opposed to Russia's interests?

What leads you to believe Russia wants Iran influence entrenched in Syria?

Edit: I went back and actually tried to follow your gibberish. Too easy.

Russia is in Syria to gain influence in the region and maintain its existing base. They are not interested in sharing that with Iran, who most seem to believe is attempting a long term military involvement. That you don't know that ....well.

Russia and Iran are neighbors who get along fine. Russia has no problems with Iran as do you.

BTW
Russia doesn't really care about influencing the region, they just want a naval base in the Med. The airbase at Latakia is a bonus.

What I find "interesting" is that all this is happening on Syrian soil. Of course Israel wants to keep some of that soil, but at the moment it's still occupied territory.

Does anyone think the U.S. would become actively involved if Israel and Iran went to war? It's a scary thought because if they did it could end up with the U.S. fighting Russia.

Israel is itching for a fight, but not like the way Texans etc itch for a fight.
Israel sees an opportunity to destabilize Syria completely and Israel always wants Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria destabilized. That way Israel can steal more land.

The expansion of "the land of Israel" continues and will continue until the Zionists are satisfied that they have created "Greater Israel" (presumably with buffer zones) or until something stops them. Israel could have peace anytime they call off the expansion program. But there's a catch, any Israeli politician who proposes ending the expansion of Israel and making actual peace with their neighbors will be assassinated forthwith.

How can you manage to think otherwise?

Do you think the PNAC story is all hogwash?
Don't you read, or pay attention?

Don't worry about Russia's nukes. Russia would be pleased to see the US get its ass kicked in Iran, and Russia would be more than willing to provide material support for that war, hoping the United States keeps on ever expanding the fighting until we collapse al la Vietnam.

And collapse we will.

That was the intelligent (and correct) answer. The more countries the US gets bogged down in, the more freedom Russia has to do what they want.

They used to suck the British into fighting their battles for them back in the 20th century. But right now the only chump they can find is the United states.

The Britts are sorry for their mistakes back then and in the future so will we be sorry for supporting what is just one more European colonist in the ME.

You mean, they shouldn't be involved again. The last time they helped put the Shah in place over the democratically elected government. Sort of like Sisi in Egypt.

Also there is the fact that they are invited into all three of these countries by the governments and the people. As Thomas pointed out, the last time Iran invaded someone was India in 1739.

The United States did not force regime change in Libya unlike Iraq. A number of nations helped fight against Qaddafi when opposition forces started fighting against government forces.

EDIT:

When was the last Iranian terror attack against the United States on American soil?

They have a democratically elected moderate leader who wanted to deal with the USA and the west and find a political compromise. Now the USA has undermined his leadership in the eyes of the Iranian hardliners and undone years of work to softening the extreme religions political front in the country, proving that America cannot be trusted with it's diplomacy. Besides, regime change isn't something the USA is very good (or successful) at, and it's not possible in Iran. In case you don't remember how the American supported Shah ended up, exile. The people of Iran won't accept that kind of thing... America can work with Iran to make change but most definitely doesn't have to possibility of dictating it to them.

So yes, Iran needs to be dealt with but with diplomacy. Which was working quite well until the Orange One came along.

Second time the US has reversed course on a moderate Iranian leader. Remember George W Bush’s ‘Axis of Evil’ speech? It will be difficult going forward for countries like Iran to trust the US if we keep seeing major policy reversals like this between every presidential administration.

Does anyone think the U.S. would become actively involved if Israel and Iran went to war? It's a scary thought because if they did it could end up with the U.S. fighting Russia.

I think the U.S. would become involved if Iran blocked/mined the Straits of Hormuz.

Remember George W Bush’s ‘Axis of Evil’ speech? It will be difficult going forward for countries like Iran to trust the US if we keep seeing major policy reversals like this between every presidential administration.

Yes I remember. Fun times I thought would never return. Was I ever wrong.

Pretty disgusted at those here who try to paint Israel as some war mongering hellhole. Israel is merely defending itself from a terrorist regime in Iran that wants to destroy it.

Israel does their thing. I don't agree with their "thing" but, eh, it seems to work to make the country a bastion of stability in a region that can be described as a mess of instability. Israel, you do you. Iran, you can do more productive things if you want to project power in the region. It's not like Iran doesn't have the human capital to become an economic powerhouse in the region. They just need to break out of old habits.

If you haven't noticed already:
Syria is right next to Israel. Iran supporting Syria with its military is not suddenly there either.

The I'd read the original where the helpful CIA translation says : "exterminate all jews".
