Amazon's odd pricing strategy for clothing

Fri Apr 13, 2018 8:50 pm

I have noticed this odd pricing strategy that Amazon does for clothing, that they price the more popular colors lower than the less popular ones. I can tell that is the case based on the number of product reviews. For example, if you look at the reviews based on the IZOD Advantage Polo, most of the reviews are for the five Basic colors, and those colors sell at a discount from the normal $26 selling price on Amazon.

So, why would Amazon price the best selling colors lower and not the slower selling colors? Wouldn't it make more sense to price the slower selling colors lower to move inventory?

Supply and demand - There's less of the 'slower colours' to start with, people wanting something different from the mainstream will pay more.
They'll all drop in price eventually, anything left will become a 'lightning deal', 'clearance item' or <insert holiday> sale item.
