According to the ACLU, Munir Zanial rented the organization's recreational lake in Wichita to host a party celebrating Malaysian Independence Day and Eid-al Adhara. That party included guests of Malaysian Indian ancestry, some of whom wore hijabs.
The ACLU says Zanial is an employee of Spirit Aerosystems and a dues-paying member of SBEA.
After the party, the ACLU says SBEA filed a complaint with Spirit Aerosystems alleging that Zanial and his guests were in possession of an "ISIS flag" and were conducting an ISIS meeting on SBEA property.
The ACLU says Spirit Aerosystems then filed a complaint with the FBI, alleging that a "group dressed in Muslim garb" with “an American flag desecrated with ISIS symbols” had gathered on the property.
The FBI closed its investigation after speaking with Zanial about the flag, which was actually a Malaysian flag.
