Silently we slip into a world where Google is our most trusted brother and weasel

Lots of information is collected by Google on Android Phones and apps. It might just get you convicted. Even if it doesn't convict you, it is harrowing to know that this data becomes publicly review able.

The article doesn't mention apple, but if you use Gmail, Google Maps and other items you might be just as screwed. Will be on the lookout to see if Apple complies as Google does.

"In addition to anonymized numerical identifiers, the warrant calls on Google to release time stamped location coordinates for every device that passed through the area. Detectives wrote that they'd narrow down that list and send it back to the company, demanding "contextual data points with points of travel outside of the geographical area" during an expanded timeframe. Another review would further cull the list, which police would use to request user names, birth dates and other identifying information of the phones' owners."

Publicly view able?

Here are the oral arguments in Carpenter vs. US in the Supreme Court.

I think warrants should be required for each individual, but I'm no attorney.

If Investigator want to find out history of devices around an area within particular time, they should probably contact cell phone carriers instead, as their cells would record info of all devices passing by including feature phone and iphones that does not have google app, or even if the location history function have been disabled.

....until people start changing IMEI number, serial number, device id and UDID and swap SIM cards, use anonymous or cloned ones .... all of which is easy. Tracking via Google and Apple is much more comprehensive and persistent if you are not reallllllllyyy careful.

Honestly we freely give up wayyyyy too much information to Google and other corporations that control, funnel, and manage our information.

I actually like the privacy laws and requirements that the EU has in place but to get such laws passed here would run afoul of legislators corporate donors.

If one goes as far as changing their serial and IMEI numbers to avoid tracking, I don't think they would sign in to a Google account in the device in the first place.. It's still far easier to log out from google than changing all these
