In the UK KFC outlets run out of chicken.

Mon Feb 19, 2018 4:05 pm

 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43110910

They have 900 branches in the UK and 700 are closed because the chicken can't cross the road.
It would appear that DHL has droppd the ball big time here, having just been awarded the contract they can not deliver. How is it possible that a company of this size got it so wrong, was there no testing done?
Their promo quote, "Our promise to you Excellence Simply delivered."

Fake / misrepresented synthetic shitstorm?
( I seem to remember to have seen the same basic twitter statements couple of years before.)

Real reason is perhaps "chlorinated chicken still can't go EU" ? ( But Leningrad cowboys can :-)

I blame Brexit. I want to change my mind. We weren’t told we were voting for KFC to be out of chicken and they didn’t warn us by writing a billboard on the side of a big red bus. We voted for bendy bananas, blue passports, bright incandescent lightbulbs, powerful vacuum cleaners and to deport every single foreigner but we never voted for the colonel’s supply of chicken to dry up. It’s time to #exitbrexit

DHL - drop it, hoof it. lose it !! Certainly lost it on this occasion. How could a company so large make such a mess of a contract ? It's not that difficult to collect raw chicken pieces from an abattoir and deliver them to 900 fast food joints, even easier for pre cut potatoes

The original style coated chicken is UK sourced, the chicken burgers etc are sourced from whichever part of the World will provide them cheapest.

There just waiting for the chickens to cross the road, and to get into the trucks. Poor DHL must be running around like headless chickens after this fiasco.

Of course, this incident has been the instigator of numerous puns. DHL laid an egg. About chickens crossing the road as some above did. KFC has a bone to pick with DHL. DHL thought they could do this on a wing and a prayer. Someone in the pecking order is going to get fried. DHL is in a bucket of trouble.

There are parts of the world culling massive populations of chickens to prevent further spread of bird flu, although this is mostly in asia. Are they importing from asia?

from where ever is the cheapest, as long as it is legal to import into the EU.

But even with the culling, chicken is cheap at about 1 USD/Pound, about 10% down from the same time last year.

Is DHL tasked with the acquisition of chicken meat?
Then you have the processing steps.

DHL is a packet carrier.
Looks like there is more to this than is superficially visible.

All KFC on the bone chicken and original recipe chicken is from the UK and Ireland with additional menu items such as processed chicken coming from abroad.

At least with chicken it’s slightly more obvious that we are not eating horse meat which the EU allowed to happen under its nose.

It’s a simply logistical error concerning the switch over to DHL. A few days and it’s all going to settle down.

In the UK DHL is one of the largest, if not the largest logistics companies, the next day parcel service would be by far the smaller part of their operation.

They wouldn't be responsible for sourcing the meat, but will probably be responsible for supplying daily order requirements to the suppliers, accepting the stock into their warehouse, receiving the store requirements, making up the deliveries and taking the goods to the stores. From the scale of the problem (approx 700 out of 900 stores), i would guess that its a failure of either their system for despatching the goods, or a failure in issuing instructions to suppliers to send them in to the warehouse.

This appears to have been going on now for quite a few days, this must be causing a problem with the fresh chicken suppliers, not only does the meat have a short shelf life, but the chickens themselves are produced on a very short cycle (approx 28 days) If the farm doesn't send any to slaughter for a few days they literally run out of space.

Horse meat is pretty normal meat to eat, even the UK produces it for export.
Now undeclared horse meat in conviniance happened under UK food surveillance just as well as under EU supervision, the Irish where the first to notice. Not surprising since 3 of the four companies mixing horse meat into the food without declaration where in Irand. But I guess everything is the EUs fault these days.

Interesting enough, after the scandal horse meat consumption increased ....

This is actually a very typical case. DHL as the big boy I can do everything stomps its way into a big contract undercutting a especialised company in food delivery and finds out the hard way chicken is not just another package.

I try to eat horse meat every time I can, I find it better than beef actually.

Allowed to happen under its nose apparently means "our non-existing pre-crime division dropped the ball and we could only jail the people in charge until after they were caught"

Ok, I guess.

I once went to a bar and they Ran. Out. Of. Beer!

I did a double take, as did every other punter who walked through the door.

They did far more business than planned, and were caught out.

Whiskey and soda for me!

This was back in the 80s and bar was right next to the WTC (rip) in Manhattan.

I never saw what the fuss was about eating horse meat. I’d take a horse steak over beef any time I’m given the option. Which will be in April when I’m in Atyrau Kazakhstan.

So you´d be fine if you go to a restaurant, order a nice beef steak and they serve you horse instead without telling you?

I'd be happy with that, horse is a lot better tasting than beef. Now if I ordered horse and they served me beef i'd be pretty upset.

To be honest I'd be happy so long as the Colonel's gravy is available. It makes is mediocre chips taste quite delicious. Even putrefied rat meat would taste nice smothered in KFC gravy.

I recently heard about KFC buffets as I saw a billboard in the background on a TV show. For starters I'm glad we don't have them here as I'd be there all of the time and we don't have enough chicken here in the UK to make the occasional burger never mind a full on all you can eat buffet. But where in the world has them?? I must try one if I ever find myself near one.

Okay, a bit more background to the story.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-co ... e-43142498

It appears DHL opened a new depot in Rugby to handle the contract but it was not staffed and tested in time. Lorries have been lined up outside, some for 7 hours and some deliveries of chicken have gone to waste.
