And what would be the point if you have no automatic right to get a job and work here, use our NHS, education or receive any social welfare? There are many ways to dissuade people from coming without having to stop them from coming entirely.
I could get on a plane to Australia tomorrow. I could get on a plane to Canada and easily make my way to the USA. I wouldn't because I probably couldn't open a bank account there or get a credit card or mortgage, I'd have trouble getting housing, my health insurance would last only as long as my travel insurance allowed, I'd not be entitled to welfare and I couldn't work.
We could put up a #buildthewall style barricade but that's simply not our style.
Now, let's see how long it takes before the Daily Mail or 'far right' is mentioned.
