France’s biggest rock star, Johnny Hallyday, the leather-trousered “French Elvis” who sold more than 110m albums over a career spanning more than half a century, has died aged 74.

I can't say I was a fan of his but I contend he was/is a bigger star in France than Elvis was/is in the US, mostly because "Johnny" as he was called didn't really have any competition for the top spot.
There will be a national homage paid to him Saturday on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
