Will Trump really pardon the Turkey?

Tue Nov 21, 2017 4:26 pm

Given his track record so far what are the chances he does not pardon the Thanks Giving Turkeys? :stirthepot:

My guess is that the turkey he will choose to pardon is ..... himself :)

Look at me, no one does pardons like me. Obama and Bush didn't do pardons like this. I'm the best.

Frigging wanker nutjob is what he is. Just like Melania I feel sorry the turkey has to get anywhere close to that repugnance. I hope the thing craps on his tiny foot.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

He'll demand proof that the turkey was a proud and life-long supporter of the Republicans!

It will be deported because all it does is crap and eat. It is not a productive member of society and in some towns they've terrorized the citizens.

You weren't that far off, actually. He joked and lamented the fact that a pardon cannot be revoked, though I wonder if he would have followed through. The unObamafication of the country continues.

He'll probably stick it on the grill, overcook it, and then smother it in ketchup. The turkey got something better than a pardon: it got the intimate tour of the Trump's 71 year old intestines.

Just a more general question, does the White House have Thanksgiven diner without Turkey or meat, so a vegetarian dinner, because of the pardon? Or is it all for show and do the brothers and sisters of these birds end up at the dinnerplate?

It's just for show. The tradition began with Bush 1 (though Reagan inadvertently began the tradition with a joke). Turkeys are raised and presented to the president (this was made a formal tradition with Truman); the bird was certain to end up at the dinner table (think of a peasant presenting a king with their most valuable crops). On occasion, presidents would not kill the bird and let it live its life (Kennedy was known to have released his turkey shortly before his assassination). The official tradition began with Bush 1 and has since then become a yearly event.

The president and his family, if carnivores, will still enjoy a turkey dinner or some other meat.

No different than Groundhog Day; no meaning, just fun.

While watching the Macys' parade this morning, I see that all of the musical performances are lip-synced.

But, it appeared that perhaps the marching band's performances were not "taped".

Does Victoria's Secret have a sponsored entry in the parade, or is just their out door billboard get to be on TV??

I didn't watch it on TV this year, but there is a huge Victoria's Secret store on 34th Street, right across from Macy's, where the parade ends, so perhaps that was it.

Let's assume for a second that the turkey IS guilty of something. Presidential pardon is a constitutional power reserved for the president. Therefore, the turkey could have committed a nuclear holocaust and if the president pardoned it, that's it and the courts wouldn't be able to overturn it. You'd know that if you read the entire document and not just cry about 2nd Amendment and states' rights.
