What Four Words do you misspell all the time?

Mon Nov 20, 2017 7:38 pm

1) License (shouldn’t there be an “sc” combination in there somewhere?
2) Pharaoh (in my line of work, I write this word all the time!)
3) Exersize (sic.) (I always want to put a “c” after the “x”)
4) inaugurate (shouldn’t there be a double “n”?

I have muscle memory that types "hte" - not my fault. :shakehead:

With peripheral neuropathy in my hands and vision not that great I find that I can type a lot of words incorrectly and depend on auto correct to save me.

I get that one wrong still, even though I know how and when to use them.

Another three are occassional, embarrassed, millennium (millenium).

Misspelled is another one. :profile:

I was well into my thirties when I learned the word "persevere" is not "perservere."

I suspect that my ability to spell correctly has suffered for two reasons. Advancing age combined with memory forgetfulness, and dependence on spell-check features of email and this forum/website.

Unfortunately, spell-check doesn't help in all situations such as homophones or near-homophones: sensor, censor, censer, censure.

A dictionary beside the computer continues to get a lot of use here.

That one is my top one too, because it's spelled licence in French (and UK English), so that's confusing and I end up being wrong in both languages.

2) connection

Same reason, it's spelt connexion in French, when usually you'd expect the reverse.

Can't think of others right now.

One of these words is in this thread's title.

"Misspell" should be spelled "mispel" to truly convey its meaning.

In English "Licence" is a noun, as in Driving Licence. "License" is a verb as in to license or licensed victualler.
