Opinions on Tariffs on CS Family Aircraft?

Wed Oct 18, 2017 12:29 am

Simply put it, I am bewildered that such a blatant dump on competition was allowed to happen and well i decided to take out my frustrations on the one aviation-political place I know of and i wanted to hear your opinions. Open to all sides as i want to see reasoning behind everyone.

If a manufacturer wants to dump prices so low that they lose money on each frame then why not? Plus, Boeing has no room to complain as it is a free market and it's not like they've never given slick deals on planes before.

I am a Boeing fanboy, but they have been doing a ton of complaining when things don't go their way and have gotten sketchy about it. This is the same bad business ethics that killed the KC-45. Now that has come to bite them in the ass because the Mobile plant was originally for the KC-45 and now will build tariff-free CSeries airplanes.

US Department of Commerce needs to be shutdown and Boeing needs a new CEO/BOD. End of story.

Methinks you better do a better job of making your case. I have no idea what's on your mind.

It shows how the Department of Commerce's judicial processes are nothing more than a Kangaroo Court. To paraphrase a comment on Leeham's article, it also show's Boeing's attitude to new aircraft development. The Boeing of old would have 'addressed' the CSeries 'problem' by out engineering Bombardier and building a superior aircraft to compete with it. Instead Boeing decided to 'address' the CSeries 'problem' with lawyers who were sent to strangle the competition.

As an Airbus shareholder however, I would like to give my deepest gratitude to Boeing and their lawyers for the way this worked out.

And they more or less the same when they undercut with the 65 Boeing 737-700 United Airlines deal, 22m a pop allegedly. That must be well below the production cost for a very well established plane.

So they have no reason to complain because it is hypocritical. Should the rest of the world react like this because of this deal? It is American arrogance of a bygone area, America century is over, 21st will be the Chinese century.

Looks like they'll be able to get around the 300% tariff by building the jets destined for US operators in the Airbus Alabama plant, as Airbus has ''purchased'' 50.1% of the C-Series program.

Which as reply 2 pointed out, is only a plant that exists to build A320's and now C Series, after a previous Boeing bitchfest overturned the KC-45, which the Alabama plant was originally intended for.
It was bad enough for Boeing that this rebounded by letting the A320 in as a US assembled aircraft for US customers, now this.

Boeing are a great company who make great aircraft, right now and not for the first time either, they are better known for complaining and it backfiring.

For the CS series wing builders in Belfast, Teresa May might have begged Trump all she liked, it was and always would be ignored. It was those Europeans who looked to have saved them.
Oh the irony considering our own British version of clown car politics right now.

Didn't even think about this, but indeed, the irony.
